Free books from the Library of Michigan - new titles and new deadline!

Hello - we have additional free materials we are offering to the library community. To take advantage of this opportunity, see the information below and the attached spreadsheet (please note there is both a 'new' and a 'used' tab). Titles highlighted in yellow are titles that have not been issued on this list before. Feel free to forward this message to other library groups or listservs within Michigan. If you are unable to see the spreadsheet, feel free to contact me and I will send it to you individually by email. Content and condition The titles listed on the 'new' sheet are extra copies of fiction and non-fiction (hard and soft cover) books submitted to the Michigan Notable Books program over the last year and either contain Michigan content and/or were written by a Michigan author. The 'used' tab contains paperbacks that were received as used donations and are not needed in our collections (they have no library stamps/labels). How to request Please submit requests by email (respond to this message). If you are local or passing through, you are welcome to schedule a time to select and claim materials on-site from 8am-5pm, Mon.-Fri. Email bartlettb(a)michigan.gov<mailto:bartlettb@michigan.gov> if you want to schedule a visit. Email requests are handled on a first-come basis by date and time. Some or all of the materials you request may no longer be available at the point we receive your email. Only requests for which we can supply NO materials will receive an email response. Shipping The Library of Michigan has limited funding for shipping. When available we will use RIDES to deliver requested materials. Any requests for libraries not in the RIDES system will be shipped via UPS or Interdepartmental mail (for state government only). We will ship free up to $20.00 per institution until/unless the funding is exhausted. If your request will cost more than $20.00 to ship, we will contact you to arrange reimbursement or pick-up. We do not accept postage reimbursement. Email requests must include the title as noted on the spreadsheet(s), a RIDES delivery code or a delivery address (street address only, no p.o. box), contact name, phone number and email address. The Delta Township Manager's Office will be accepting applications for a full-time Circulation Services Librarian at the Delta Township District Library, 5130 Davenport Road in Lansing. This position will be responsible for overseeing all operations and staff of the library's circulation department including interlibrary loan. Duties include providing leadership, training, and guidance to staff to ensure outstanding customer service and the implementation of efficient and effective circulation operations. Education and Experience: This position requires a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited library school. A minimum one (1) year library experience desired. Familiarity with SirsiDynix Symphony preferred. Other: Demonstrated competency with information technology including electronic resources, online catalogs, internet, etc. Possess excellent communication skills including confidence in public speaking; requires ability to deal effectively with the public, associates, vendors, and other members of the staff in a tactful, courteous manner. Requires strong organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of and experience with computers is also required. Flexibility in scheduling including the ability to work primarily evenings and weekends is required. Call for proposals--EXTENDED Advances in Library Administration and Organization Challenging the “Jacks of All Trades but Masters of None” Librarian Syndrome Publication due 2018 Series Editor: Samantha Hines, Peninsula College Volume Editor: George J. Fowler, Old Dominion University Librarianship may be said to be facing an identity crisis. It may also be said that librarianship has been facing an identity crisis since it was proposed as a profession. With the advent of technology that lowers barriers to the access of information, the mission of a library has become indistinct. This volume will explore the current purpose of librarianship and libraries, how we become “Masters of our Domains”, develop expertise in various elements of the profession, and how we extend outward into our communities. Proposals in the following areas would be of particular interest: * What is the purpose of a library in a community? And what roles in the community best align with that purpose? * How ought we gather and implement expertise from outside the profession? * How can we communicate and garner support from the government, the private sector and users in order to achieve our purpose? * How can libraries balance demands to serve other needs that detract from the library’s ability to fulfil its purpose? * How can libraries build community around this purpose, and how ought they reach out to their communities to engage and serve them? * How can libraries demonstrate positive impact on young generations? * What opportunities are opened to libraries and librarians by recent and potential future technological advancements? This will be the second volume of Advances in Library Administration and Organization (ALAO) to publish in 2018. About the Advances in Library Administration and Organization series ALAO<http://www.emeraldgrouppublishing.com/products/books/series.htm?id=0732-0671> offers long-form research, comprehensive discussions of theoretical developments, and in-depth accounts of evidence-based practice in library administration and organization. The series answers the questions, “How have libraries been managed, and how should they be managed?” It goes beyond a platform for the sharing of research to provide a venue for dialogue across issues, in a way that traditional peer reviewed journals cannot. Through this series, practitioners can glean new approaches in challenging times and collaborate on the exploration of scholarly solutions to professional quandaries. I'm looking forward to being a part of decision making at CSLP and moving the organization forward as we work to provide great reading program materials & more to libraries across the country & even so far as Guam and other territorial islands. (They fly the furthest every year!) What you may not realize is that CSLP board and committees are made up of volunteers. LeUyen Pham is the illustrator of over fifty children’s books. Her books include the best-selling Freckleface Strawberry series with Julianne Moore, the Princess in Black series by Shannon Hale, the Alvin Ho series by Lenore Look, Grace for President by Kelly S. DiPucchio, as well as her own self-authored There is No Such Thing as Little, The Bear Who Wasn’t There and Big Sister, Little Sister. She also designed artwork used on the bookmarks for the “We Need Diverse Books” campaign in 2014. 2019 Slogan State representatives and voting proxies selected A Universe of Stories as the slogan for all age groups for the 2019 “Space” theme. The “Space” theme was selected at the 2016 annual meeting to commemorate the 50thanniversary of the landing on the moon. 2020 General Theme In addition to a 2019 slogan, state representatives and voting proxies also selected “Fairy Tales/Mythology/ Fantasy” as the general theme for 2020. The independently organized event is a live broadcast of the official TED2017 Conference.
