POSITION TITLE: Youth Services Page DEPARTMENT: Youth Services, reporting to Assistant Department Head RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct public service: • provides positive, pleasant professional services to staff and public • directs patrons to appropriate staff for assistance • retrieves materials for patrons and staff Indirect public service: • sorts and shelves materials, • reads shelves to ensure accurate order so that materials can be found by patrons • follows direction of supervisor • assists department staff before and after programs when needed REQUIREMENTS: Minimum: • Able to lift, bend, and stoop to shelve materials • Able to push or pull carts weighing at least 20 pounds • Desire to serve the public in a positive manner • able to visually review materials and discern voice and audible tones Desirable: • Public library work experience • Computer/keyboard experience HOURS: Part-time, approximately 10 weekly, including some evenings and weekends. Hekman Library of Calvin College seeks an Interlibrary Loan Coordinator Job Description SUMMARY This position is accountable for cooperatively providing support to the Access Services Department by meeting the needs of library users through borrowing and lending Interlibrary Loan & MeLCat materials and providing document delivery. We are looking for a new team member willing to jump in and support the Access Services team with any task needed in addition to coordinating Interlibrary loan program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Under the direction of the Access Services Supervisor, manages the daily operations of Interlibrary Loans, assists in all circulation operations, MeLCat, and service desk operations * Responsible for the interpretation of library policies and procedures to library users, other libraries, and student employees and for providing high quality information service about access to collections and space * Participates in other activities such as book searching, collecting statistics, handling financial transactions, operating special equipment and identifying opportunities for service improvements * Participates in training staff in policies, procedures and technology, and contributes in the development of documentation and training materials related to processes and workflows * Supports resource sharing activities including Inter-library loan, MeLCat and document delivery. Acts as a good steward of the library's materials by following up on loan materials and invoicing/or billing as needed * As a team member, continuously collaborates with colleagues through good listening skills and through active participation in order to accomplish goals. * Participates in local and library-wide committees/teams/groups or projects Required Skills * Excellent customer service skills * Independent problem solving ability * Strong communication skills, both written and verbal * Willingness to serve in other areas as needed * Good organizational and effective time management skills * Ability to work without close supervision * Flexibility in dealing with unpredictable office workflow. Enlists help and provides assistance when needed. Urban Explorer-Photographer program

Last night Brandon Library hosted a fresh perspective on the city of Detroit, and it was very well-received by our enthusiastic audience of 24. The program was presented by urban explorer and photographer Robert Huston, who, as @detroitunseen on Instagram, has over 5700 followers. Robert is a passionate advocate of documenting Detroit’s abandoned architectural history and rebirth. The program is 1.5 hours and he charges $200 (plus mileage if in wide-flung areas of the state). The position will also work on collaborative projects both in the library and with other departments on campus to provide superior services for our students, faculty and staff. This position works closely with the Acquisitions Librarian to provide timely payment for all electronic books and serials.
