Autism Welcome Here grant

Hi everyone, Are you thinking about starting a new program or service at your library for children, teens, or adults with autism? Or perhaps you would like to expand on an existing program if you had more funding? Fifth Avenue Press | A First of Its Kind Imprint from the Ann Arbor District Library

The Ann Arbor District Library has launched a locally focused and publicly owned publishing imprint called Fifth Avenue Press. Fifth Avenue Press supports the local writing community and promotes the production of original content in all genres. The library invests in the production of each author's work, providing project management, editing, graphic design, layout and other assistance as needed, with the author retaining the copyright for their work Fifth Avenue Press will release its first nine books at a reception on November 5, which will include a book of poetry, two memoirs, a murder mystery and two picture books. The second wave of Fifth Avenue Press projects are already being accepted and the AADL looks forward to helping more local writers achieve their dreams of completing their work. A reminder that Intent to File forms for the grant program are due Tuesday, October 31st by 5:00 PM. If you are interesting in applying for a Collaborative Library Services grant or sponsorship for the 2017/2018 year, you must be an eligible institution AND submit an Intent to File form by the deadline. If you have any questions, please contact me. >>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Collaborative Library Services Grant program for 2017/2018 is now open. Interested applicants must submit an Intent to File form by Oct. 31st. The grant program is designed to provide Michigan libraries with the opportunity to develop innovative programs or services that have the potential to develop into sustainable regional or statewide programs, and include strong partnerships between libraries, and/or local community groups or agencies. Eligible applicants include Michigan public, academic, school and special libraries as well as non-profit organizations that serve Michigan libraries. Detailed information on the grant program, including the program timeline, applicant eligibility, Intent to File form, and the application questions are available at www.michigan.gov/lsta<http://www.michigan.gov/lsta>. Applicants may propose a library program or service in any content area appropriate for library services, such as: * To develop an innovative service or program to meet a newly identified community need; * To meet the increased community demand for a service or resource; * To improve or develop new services to target populations, such as people from diverse geographic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds; individuals with disabilities; and individuals with limited functional literacy, limited English proficiency or limited information literacy skills. digital signage

A few years back we purchased a digital brightboard that rotates a series of posters on power point slides. The slides are saved on a disc that is swapped out from time to time with fresh posters. The board is on a pedestal that stands near our entry way. Lately we've begun to question whether or not it's looked at. We thought to move it closer to the circ desk, but the pedestal makes it awkward and there's no good place to plunk it where it will be both readable and not something people would trip over. Now we are considering investing in something with a larger display that could be mounted on a wall and that could do more, perhaps stream high interest news coverage when big things were happening. Does anyone have something in place like this that they like and would recommend? Has anyone gone this route only to discover they don't like it? Off list replies will be compiled and posted. New LSTA Five-Year Plan for Michigan

The Library of Michigan's new Five-Year Plan has been accepted by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). As part of managing the LSTA funding that Michigan receives, the Library is required to have a Five-Year plan for the use of the funds. The plan explains how the Library of Michigan and Michigan libraries use the funds to achieve the goals of the LSTA legislation. We received many comments through the surveys to library staff last fall about MeL and other statewide services. Other people participated in focus groups throughout the state. We appreciate all the time and insights offered by everyone.
