Hi everyone, We extended the call for Poe inspired stories, poems, or essays to December 31, 2015. Hope you consider submitting a Poe inspired piece! Do you have any gothic poetry up your sleeve? As part of The Big Read celebration of Edgar Allan Poe, Dearborn Public Library is sending out a call for original Poe inspired stories or poetry. The deadline is December 31, 2015. This program is open to all ages. Your work may be selected for publication in the Poe short story collection. To participate, email your short story (or other written work) of approximately one to three pages, along with one or two sentences about yourself, to hfischer(a)ci.dearborn.mi.us or thebigreaddearborn(a)gmail.com. The content should be in a Word document or written as text in the email message. Please also complete the release form, which is available at bigreaddearborn.org, so that your work can be considered for publication. Original photos and artwork, along with your narrative, are also welcome and can be emailed along with your text. Possible topics include: Scary / suspense or sci-fi stories or Mysteries Ghost stories or poems Something about dreams, as The Big Read theme is “Dreaming Dreams No Mortal Ever Dared to Dream Before” Anything else Poe related, whether fictional or true Dearborn Public Library will compile all selected stories and produce a Poe book for its library collection. Also, copies will be available for purchase via a link on its website. Proceeds will benefit the Dearborn Public Library. If you do not have access to email, you may also mail these items to: Henry Ford Centennial Library 16301 Michigan Ave. Dearborn, MI 48126 Attn: The Big Read Dearborn Fun-filled activities and events centered on Poe’s great tales and poems will take place in and around Dearborn in February through March 2016. The kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2-4 p.m. at Henry Ford Centennial Library. The Big Read wraps up with a visit from Poe himself on Saturday, March 19 (location TBD). Two Printers for Sale

The Schultz-Holmes Memorial Library is looking to sell two different printers no longer used by our library. Both still work; one is a Sharp AR-201, the other is a Sharp MX-2300N. The Sharp AR-201 only prints in black and white and doesn't connect to the internet. We are asking $50 OBO for that one. The Sharp MX-2300N prints color and black and white and does connect to the internet via Ethernet port. We are asking $100 OBO for that one. Both printers also come with ink made for the printers specifically. I've included pictures of both in the attachments of this e-mail. 14 Day Loan Stickers for sale

Hi All- Does anyone use 14 day Loan stickers? I have 7 boxes of 500/roll to sell. I would like to sell all 7 boxes for $25. Half their normal price. (See attached picture) Demco will not let me return them because we have had them more than 6 months, even though they still sell them on their website. I will also send you any remaining partial boxes we find for free. We are no longer going to be using them after December. Learn about Legacy gifts & Estate Planning Education - Dec 11th in Novi

Hello Everyone- The incoming president of our library's Friends group is a development director for a non-profit and is encouraging our Friends group, Library Board and Staff to better educate ourselves about fundraising, and especially the possibility of legacy gifts for our library. To that end we are bringing in Bill Winkler, a speaker from the Leave a Legacy Speakers' bureau of the Planned Giving Round Table of Southeast Michigan. This is a professional organization of development directors and estate planning professionals helping to educate their membership and the general public about legacy gifts and estate planning.
