A step-by-step review of how to dispute errors in your credit report will also be provided. * Payday Loans: Is instant cash worth the risk? - Taking out a payday loan? Make sure you know when the money is due and understand all the fees associated with obtaining a cash advance. This presentation informs consumers of all the fees associated with taking out a payday loan and what happens when you don't pay the loan back. When managing debt, individuals need to understand that payday loans are a short-term fix and can potentially increase your financial burden if you are not careful. * Scam Alert: Don't Be A Victim. Protect Your Identity! - Identity theft continues to top the list of complaints among consumers nationwide. According to the Federal Trade Commission, American consumers report losing billions of dollars to fraud every year. Learn how to lower your risk of becoming a victim identity theft. * Scam Alert: Don't Be a Victim. Protect Your Money! - This presentation is designed to make consumers aware of the various identity theft and financial scams that are plaguing our communities. Resource materials and tips provided. * Scam Alert: Don't Get Hijacked by Technology! - With the news of recent data breaches at Target, Home Depot, Lowes, Staples, the White House and Sony, the need to protect one's personal information in this digital age is becoming more crucial. Whether you are using a credit/debit card when making an in-store purchase or shopping online; or using a computer or smartphone when corresponding via email or on social media, consumers need to be aware of the potential dangers of online threats and data breaches. In this presentation, you will learn how scammers are adding a new twist to old schemes by using sophisticated technology to get people to send money or give out personal information. Resource materials and tips provided. * Seniors and Identity Theft - Learn about various scams targeting seniors nationwide. The goal of this presentation is to provide tips on how to spot a scam; how to prevent from becoming a victim of identity theft or other fraud-related crimes; and what to do if your identity has been stolen. Resource materials and tips provided. * Taking a Mortgage Loan: What Every Consumer Should Know - A general presentation about the steps in the mortgage process and what consumers should watch out for to avoid financial harm. Insurance (Approximate run time 1 hour) * Affordable Care Act: What consumers need to know about shopping for health coverage - A brief explanation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the new role of consumers under this law, including how to shop for coverage on the Health Insurance Marketplace and what consumers need to know beyond the price of the policy. * Annuity 101 - Annuities are typically sold to seniors or those who are planning for their retirement. If you are planning to purchase an annuity contract, this presentation will explain the benefits of buying an annuity, how the contract works, payout options (premiums paid), interest accumulation methods, and how you get paid, i.e., life income vs. annuity certain. * Auto Insurance 101 - This presentation provides an understanding of Michigan's no-fault system; the components of auto insurance and its mandatory and optional coverages; the benefits for having auto insurance, how rates are developed for group and individual policies, and how consumers can shop for the best rates. * Auto Insurance: What Teen Drivers Must Know - Obtaining a driver's license is an exciting time for teens. Along with this excitement and freedom comes the responsibility of operating a car. Statistics show that young drivers are involved in more car accidents, and many insurance companies consider them a greater risk. As a result, automobile insurance will be one of the most expensive costs teens will face in relation to obtaining their driver's license and earning the privilege to drive. Teens should do their homework so that they fully understand the costs associated with operating a car and ways to keep these costs as affordable as possible. * Health Insurance: What to Do When Things Go Wrong- This presentation explains what to do when your insurance does not pay an expected medical claim, what to do when you have a dispute with your insurance company; and will explain the complaint and appeal processes available to Michigan consumers through the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services. * How to Use Your Health Coverage- Many consumers are newly covered by health insurance and often do not know all the ins and outs of suing their coverage. This presentation will explain these terms, offer tips for finding a doctor, explain what insurance covers, help you understand your co-pays and other out-of-pocket costs and point you in the right direction when you have a problem with your coverage. * Homeowners, Renters and Flood Insurance Basics- This presentation discusses the coverage options available under a homeowners, renters, or flood policy, including an explanation of what you policy may not cover. Information will be provided on what to do when you need to file a claim or if you are in dispute with your insurance company. * Life Insurance: How much do I really need? - This presentation provides a general overview of the different types of life insurance, tips for purchasing and replacing insurance. A brief overview of different types of annuities and ways to receive benefits is also provided. * Long-Term Care Insurance: Is it right for you? - This presentation is an overview of Long-Term Care insurance and the types of services this coverage provides to seniors and individuals who have a severe chronic impairment over a long period of time. These educational workshops are available on request and can be tailored to the specific needs of your target audience. Each of these workshops will provide your constituents with an opportunity to receive valuable information and guidance on financial and insurance matters that impact their daily lives. LIBRARY DIRECTOR - BRANCH DISTRICT LIBRARY, SOUTH-CENTRAL MICHIGAN Manage six unique libraries as a single, unified system in South Central Michigan! The <https://www.branchdistrictlibrary.org/> Branch District Library Board of Trustees seeks a progressive and original leader who can and will capitalize on the Library's 2015 millage success and create a sound forward-thinking plan for the Library's future. The Library staff (37 employees, 23 FTE) serves the 46,905 citizens of Branch County and Allen Township in Hillsdale County with a $1.6 million operating budget. The Branch District Library was formed in 1991 by combining the resources and services of individual public libraries in Coldwater, Algansee, Bronson, Quincy, Sherwood, and Union Township. Branches of the District Library remain active in those communities, each of which has its own unique character, community support, programs and services. The challenge for the new Director will be to help the Library and its services flourish with its communities, move forward with innovation to restore hours and services and become recognized as the community resource. Cultural amenities include the historical Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater-the second oldest theater in Michigan-offering near perfect acoustics in an intimate 499-seat setting. The theater offers a fine array of performances throughout the year and has developed an outstanding reputation for its Summer Theatre performances. Branch County is served by five school districts and two colleges-Baker College and Kellogg Community College. The area has a healthy and expanding economy, including the recently announced Clemens Food Group's $225 million investment in a new pork production facility. The Director reports to a seven-member Library Board of Trustees and under the broad policy guidance and direction from the Board, performs professional and administrative duties in planning, developing, implementing, and directing public library services for the Branch District Library. These duties include personnel management, budget preparation and financial management, policy and project development, facilities management, and community relations. The Director will work effectively with elected officials at the local, township and state level; and with the media, stakeholder groups, and the communities to enhance the Library's image as the heart of the county. Qualifications. Minimum qualifications include a Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program; four years of experience as an administrator/director or as a department head for a public library (or equivalent); and the ability to obtain and retain Michigan Certification Level 1. Essential attributes and skills include: excellent communication and organizational skills; the ability and desire to plan, develop, and administer the activities of a public library; supervisory experience; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board, staff and community stakeholders; and an understanding and appreciation of public library best practices in the areas of intellectual freedom, collections, and library technologies. Successful experience as a library director reporting to a governing board, experience leading and implementing a strategic planning process and experience with a successful millage campaign are highly desirable. Third and Final Call for Proposals On behalf of the Conference Program Committee, we invite you to submit a proposal for the 3rd Annual Great Lakes Resource Sharing Conference. The event will be held on June 10, 2016 in Indianapolis, IN at the Sheraton Indianapolis at Keystone Crossing, with a preconference on June 9. This conference is an opportunity for individuals working in resource sharing to share information and network with other colleagues. We invite program proposals through January 15, 2016. Program proposals should be 45 minutes in length, including time for questions. Dear Library Friends, As we come to the end of another very busy year and you take stock of your many accomplishments, please don't forget to apply for FOML's *Outstanding Michigan Friends of the Library Award*. Did your Friends of the Library group carry out an outstanding project or a number of successful activities in your community during 2015 that had a significant impact on your library’s services to the community? The award will be given to a Michigan Friends group for a specific project carried out in 2015 or based on the full scope of the group’s activities during 2015. Applications will be judged by the FOML Membership & Marketing Committee on the following criteria: 1. *Planning:* Involvement of the Friends, library, and community in the use of resources, an innovative and appropriate activity, and measurable outcomes (e.g., attendance at event, increase in patron use of the library, etc.). 2. *Implementation:* Public relations, broad membership involvement, and use of resources. 3. *Evaluation:* Assessment of activity or program with measurable results. 4. *Innovation:* New idea(s) for program or activity, creative involvement of community and specific citizens, and creative use of public relations. 5. *Community Involvement*: Evidence of community involvement in planning and implementation. The Friends of the Munising Public Library receive the FOML "Harriet Larson Founders Grant"

I am pleased to announce that the Friends of Michigan Libraries (FOML) has awarded the 2015 “Harriet Larson Founders Grant” to *The Friends of the Munising Public Library*. They have made great strides to improve their Friends organization and applied through FOML’s grant program to help them in continuing that work. We applaud the Friends of the Munising Public Library’s efforts on behalf of their library. It is organizations like theirs that help keep Michigan libraries a vital part of our cultural life. Harriet Larson was a founding member of The Friends of Michigan Libraries. Her love of books and service to The Friends of the Library - especially at the Livonia Public Library - is legendary. To honor her memory, the FOML Board awards a grant worth up to $400 twice a year to assist deserving new or revitalized Friends of Libraries groups.
