Our keynote will be from Maureen Sullivan, former ALA president, presenting on how libraries can engage and transform their community. Following Maureen a panel of regional library leaders will respond to and share how they are managing change. Corey Seeman, Director of the University of Michigan Kresge Business Administration Library, will address how his library is undergoing a massive transformation, which slashes both student and collection space. He will explain how they are reaching out to the community from less visible settings, and showcasing a philosophy which strives to create an entrepreneurial approach to the potentially devastating changes to Kresge. Emily Bunyan, Director of the Knox County Public Library, will talk about her experiences during her journey as she participates in ALA's Libraries Transforming Communities Harwood Public Innovator's Cohort. Christina Wray, from the Center for Disability Information and Referral at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, will speak about providing accessibility to all within her community. Call for proposals: MLA Technologies and Trends workshop

The MLA Technologies & Trends work group is seeking proposals for presentations at the Michigan Library Association’s 2015 Technologies and Trends workshop. This one-day event, on June 5, 2015, at Grand Valley State University, Allendale, will attract a wide variety of library practitioners. The work group is seeking proposals for sessions from public, academic, special, and school-library professionals and staff that will share new library technologies or introduce innovative ways libraries can use technology to be more effective and efficient. Possible topics could include but are not limited to updates on discovery systems, the library staff - IT relationship, technology for improving accessibility for people with disabilities, copyright, and responsive web design. My Dearest Friend: GEM Theatrics

Morton Township Library presented "My Dearest Friend" a two character PLAY chronicling one of the greatest love stories and partnerships in U.S. History between John and Abigail Adams. If libraries are interested in presenting history plays, this is an excellent one. Author Mary G. Kron has created a touching flashback of the high points of the couple's life together through the American Revolution and beyond. Gary E. Mitchell and Mary Beth Quillin make of the cast of the play. Letters about Literature judges wanted

The Library of Michigan is looking for judges for the Letters about Literature program. Librarians and teachers familiar with English language arts education, young adult literature, and literary programming for grades 4-12 are welcome. Judging includes reading approximately 50 letters sometime in February or March and one meeting to discuss which letters should be the winner and finalists. Meeting attendance in person is encouraged, but conference call attendance is okay. If you are interested, please contact me and let me know if you are interested in Level I (grades 4-6), Level II (grades 7-8), or Level III (grades 9-12). We are the Michigan host for this national program from the Library of Congress. It is reading-writing contest that invites readers in grades 4 through 12 to write letters to authors of books that have changed their lives. This program gives students the opportunity to reflect deeply on a book. As readers, they come to understand how literature is more than assignment, but also a life changing experience. Children and teens can participate on their own or as part of a library or class project.
