Hi Librarians, Do any/all of you have writer's groups at your libraries? We have a cool opportunity (see attached flyer) and I would like to get the word out. Basically we have an author coming in to the bookfest who is going to offer a one on one critique to any writer willing to submit 20 pages. Also, it's free, though the BookFest will happily accept a donation. The flyer is pretty self explanatory, and if you all have folks to share this with, it would be much appreciated. We received a lot of good ideas from our March post-meeting survey and hope to implement them at the September meeting. Presentations will include a Visualization tool, ResourceSpace, Digitization workflow, Digital Newspaper Project, Modeling Relationships in Fedora, and much more. We have filled most of the lightning round talk spots but are looking to fill out our Birds of a Feather section. Birds of a Feather discussion provides the opportunity to discuss topics of interest with others. Current categories are: · Web Archiving · Media Preservation · Digital Assets · Digital Humanities · Rights Management *Do you have a suggestion for another topic? Would you like to volunteer to be a topic moderator?* At the end of the day, we will have time and space to have multiple tool demos going. I don't have a definitive answer about this, but what a great idea. I do know that several years ago in December I was at the Botanical Gardens in Cleveland and each of the area Garden Clubs had decorated a Christmas tree based on a children's book. You might call them and see if they dealt with any copyright issues. Also, one can always ask the publisher/author/illustrator for permission to do this. They have sole right to copy, but they can give permission. They might consider it free advertising. Will you be selling books at the quilt show? Of course, if you only used books in the public domain, you'd be fine. I once worked with a woman who had taken a coloring book of Peter Rabbit and had traced the pictures onto material and was embroidering each of the pictures on our breaks/lunch, preparatory to turning it into a quilt. I believe Peter Rabbit would be legal. And if you really do this, please let me know. I'll come.
