Shell Shock/PTSD to be discussed at the Library of Michigan

PTSD topic to be discussed August 1 at the Library of Michigan Erin Smith will present "The History and Treatment of Shell Shock" at the World War I Symposium on August 1st, at the Library of Michigan. Ms. Smith, Ph.D, is the Chief of the PTSD Clinic Team at the Veterans Administration Ann Arbor Healthcare System. She is also a clinical instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical School. We are delighted to have someone speak on such a current topic and examine the awareness of PTSD and the layers of treatment since it was first recognized during the First World War. "Blood and Iron"? book title

Hello all. I have a patron looking for a book that he says is titled "Blood and Iron". I can turn up many different books with that title, but none appear to be what he described. He is looking for a book that is about the Spanish-American War. He says that it begins with the battle for Manilla Bay and ends with the Boxer Rebellion. He says that he saw it advertised in a magazine a few years ago and that it cost $50.00 I have searched on many different combinations of terms. If I find Blood and Iron, it's not about the Spanish American war. If I search Spanish American war, no title comes close to Blood and Iron, nor to Manilla Bay, etc., etc. If anyone recognizes this book, I would be grateful for the information. Thanks! Notice: Changes to District Library Establishment Act in 2015

If your community is considering forming a district library, please note there will be a significant change in the District Library Establishment Act (DLEA) going into effect on January 1, 2015. Section 2(i) of the DLEA, MCL 397.172(i), currently states that cities, villages, townships, counties and school districts may be participating municipalities for the purpose of establishing a new district library. Section 2(i), however, also states that after January 1, 2015, a school district may NOT be a participating municipality - this specific provision will "sunset." Practically speaking, this means that new agreements for establishing a district library that include a school district as a participating municipality must be have all authorizations in place -i.e., must be signed and approved by ALL the necessary parties - by December 31, 2014. The Library of Michigan will continue to review these agreements within a reasonable time of receipt by the State Librarian's Office, although please be aware that Section 5(1) of the DLEA, MCL 397.175(1), states the "legislative bodies of the municipalities that establish a district library shall submit the agreement to the state librarian within 10 days following the date on which the agreement is adopted." HB 5597, which proposes to remove the sunset provision, is currently pending in the Michigan Legislature . If HB 5597 is enacted, school districts will continue to be able to be participating municipalities for purposes of establishing a district library. The progress of HB 5597 may be followed on the Michigan Legislature website at http://legislature.mi.gov/doc.aspx?2014-HB-5597. HB 5597 does NOT however - as of July 23, 2014 - change the DLEA prohibition against adding a school district as a participating municipality under Section 25(1), MCL 397.195. Light Oak Carrrolls available

I work at the Westland Public Library and we have available for first come with trailer or truck. Light Oak Carrols. There are at least (7) set of 3 and 4 .These have angled tops. However angle is not necessary. May also have another 5-7 in storage also. Looking for a Library in need and can provide your own pick-up and transportation. We do not have any pictures of them put together. Upon request I could send a phot of the size and color. I looked for an example under Library Furniture. The closest I came up with is below. They sit side by side and are in very good condition.
