The Letters about Literature program deadlines are coming up (Dec. 15th for Level III and Jan. 15th for Level I and II). We hope to have your teen and tween patrons participate! >>>>>>>>>> The Library of Michigan is announcing the 2015 Letters about Literature<http://www.read.gov/letters/> program. We are the Michigan host for this national program from the Library of Congress. It is reading-writing contest that invites readers in grades 4 through 12 to write letters to authors of books that have changed their lives. This program gives students the opportunity to reflect deeply on a book. As readers, they come to understand how literature is more than assignment, but also a life changing experience. Children and teens can participate on their own or as part of a library or class project. We have posted an explanatory letter and a sample entry form at www.michigan.gov/youthlibraryservices/<http://www.michigan.gov/youthlibraryservices/>. The 2015 letters will be due in two waves. Level III entries (grades (9-12) have a deadline of December 15, 2014 and Level I and II entries (grades 4-6 and 7-8) have a deadline of January 15, 2015. The state and national winners will be announced in May 2015. Great Lakes Resource Sharing Conference – Final Call for Proposals

**The deadline for submitting proposals is fast approaching – please consider submitting a proposal.** On behalf of the Conference Program Committee, we would like to invite you to submit a proposal for the Great Lakes Resource Sharing Conference. The event will be held in Kalamazoo, Michigan at the Radisson on Friday, June 5, 2015. This conference is an opportunity for individuals working in resource sharing to gather information and communicate with other colleagues. We invite program proposals from September 15, 2014 to January 16, 2015. Accepted program proposal submissions should be 45 minutes in length including time for questions. Proposals might focus on any of the following areas: · Resource Sharing Best Practices · Marketing Services · Electronic Resources and Resource Sharing · Workflow improvements · Cooperative collection development · Consortial or Group Purchasing · Purchase on Demand · Reciprocal Borrowing · Shared Staffing and Training · Shared Discover Layers · E-Books Please submit a 150-200 word proposal for your presentation via the GLRSC website. Help finding the the title of a book

Hi all, I am trying to help a patron find a book he read about 5 years ago. He can't remember the title or the author but he gave me this description. I didn't have any luck with the catalog or Google. The name of the main character is Rowena (that may not be the correct spelling). Rowena was a princess who was kidnapped from her father's castle and was taken someplace where she was held captive and was to be forced into marriage. Something happened and she was sent in front of the Spanish Inquisition. She was found guilty and sent to a dungeon where she was tortured and raped by a nasty troll like man. He was a hunchback and the dungeon keeper. His name might have been Troas. A prince from the area where she was from was looking for Rowena - the patron doesn't remember if he saved her or not. Winter Walk & Read collaboration with the State Parks

Good afternoon, the following state parks are plowing loops in their park or campgrounds this winter. The parks want to partner with local libraries and co-promote weekly walking groups at the parks. For example, a Friday "Mommy & Me" walk at the park, followed by hot cocoa and story time at the library. Or a Winter Walkers/Silver Sneakers group who could walk at the park, then warm up with good book discussion at the library. For those places with a lot of snow, there are snowshoes that could be used for a Snowshoe 101 program.
