The Clinton-Macomb Public Library is looking to hire multiple new substitute librarians to work at any of our locations (Main Library: Adult Nonfiction, Children's Services, Popular Materials; North Branch Reference, South Branch Reference). This is also a great opportunity for students who are close to completion of their MSI degree and want an opportunity to gain field experience in a thriving public library. Wage: $20.10-$22.19 an hour Schedule: Variable, seven days a week, up to 20 hours per week Required Qualifications: * ALA-accredited MLS or substantial completion in an MLS program * Knowledge of the philosophy and techniques of public library services * Ability to provide a high quality library service to customers of all ages * Demonstrated knowledge of library materials and resources * Familiarity with popular reading materials * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels * Ability to prioritize duties and tasks and work independently * Strong oral and written communication skills * Ability to work independently * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors and especially with the public * Ability and skill to adapt to changing procedures and situations Desired Qualifications: * Experience with library automation systems, especially Polaris * Full range of Internet skills and experience * Knowledge of online information resources, computers, software programs * High energy, self-motivation and ability to work in a fast-paced library For further information please refer to our posting at: http://www.cmpl.org/AboutUs/JobPostings/Posting%20Substitute%20Librarian%20… . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The Library of Michigan's Beginning Workshop is a 3-day event geared for library staff members that have not had the opportunity for formal library coursework. Its aim is to introduce library staff to a variety of topics and offer them practical skills that they can use working in a Michigan public library. Anyone new to the profession or just hired at a library, no matter what their academic credentials, is welcome to attend the event. For those seeking an initial Level 3 or Level 4 certificate from the Library of Michigan attendance at the entire Beginning Workshop is obligatory. Supervised visits policies

Supervised visits are becoming more and more frequent at our library, and with them come people that don't normally use the library, and don't know what behavior is expected. Do any of you have specific policies for supervised visits, or have hand-outs to give parents and social workers? We have discovered finger-painting and clay work, along with lots of snacks happening in our kids room - plus general mayhem and messes. We have patron behavior policies, but it would be nice to have something specific to this situation. Thanks for any help you can give! Happy Holidays!
