Serves as coordinator of user services in the absence of the Users Services Supervisor as scheduled. Quality service is essential in this public relations position to establish positive first impressions and expectations of continued quality service. It is therefore imperative that the Users Services Technician II impart the University's Quality Service Standards, listed as follows: 1. Promptness, timeliness of information and actions, availability, and ability to respond 2. Accuracy: Correct information and actions 3. Personalization: Personal contact, personal relationships, and use of names 4. Professionalism: Attitude, discretion, appearance, language, honesty, follow-through and accountability 5. About our ideal candidate MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education * Minimum of High School Diploma. * Associate Degree in computer technology and/or a Certificate in Library Services preferred. Experience * Six months or more of work experience in a library, user support center or related service oriented environment. * Supervisory experience in a service-oriented position a plus. ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES * Demonstrated aptitude for troubleshooting computer, software, and peripheral problems. * Demonstrated competency with both Microsoft and Mac operating systems. * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. * Basic knowledge in the use of electronic databases and integrated library systems. * Competently gathers relevant information to think logically, strategically, and insightfully to make sound decisions. * Identify, diagnose, and resolve problems or user information needs. * Completes tasks with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. * Confidently supervise others by providing clear direction and oversight. * Must be able to lift and move at least 20 pounds. * Must be, and remain, insurable for driving by the university's automobile insurance company without additional premiums. Library Logo Highway Signs

Has anyone succeeded in having library logo directional signs installed on a state highway through your town? Im trying to look into this, but all I am coming up with through MDOT are ways to pay annually to advertise my business and libraries dont apply for the two programs they are pushing. MSW is a public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. This is achieved through the collaboration and coordinated effort of hundreds of organizations across the country including financial institutions and other businesses, schools, libraries, not-for-profits, places of worship, government agencies and the media. National MSW Partners include the American Library Association and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, among others. These groups work together once a year to stress the importance of financial education, inform consumers about where they can get help and provide free educational seminars and activities throughout the week. Programming is offered to all demographics, ages and income levels, and covers all facets of personal finance from savings basics and establishing a budget, to estate and retirement planning. The effort was created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in 2002. Between April 18-25, 2015, libraries and communities across the country will be hosting financial education events for people of all ages, including youth! With the generous support of the Michigan Credit Union League & Affiliates, Michigan libraries have a unique opportunity to obtain free copies of The Berenstain Bears' Dollars and Sense book to give away to families participating in a story time you host during Money Smart Week, April 18-25. Michigan libraries in 85 districts successfully participated in "Money Smart Kids Read" last year, giving away 3,300 books. Reminder: Letters about Literature program

Please keep the Letters about Literature program in mind for your teen and tween patrons this fall. We'd love to read their letters! >>>>>>>>>> The Library of Michigan is announcing the 2015 Letters about Literature<http://www.read.gov/letters/> program. We are the Michigan host for this national program from the Library of Congress. It is reading-writing contest that invites readers in grades 4 through 12 to write letters to authors of books that have changed their lives. This program gives students the opportunity to reflect deeply on a book. As readers, they come to understand how literature is more than assignment, but also a life changing experience. Children and teens can participate on their own or as part of a library or class project. We have posted an explanatory letter and a sample entry form at www.michigan.gov/youthlibraryservices/<http://www.michigan.gov/youthlibraryservices/>. The 2015 letters will be due in two waves. Level III entries (grades (9-12) have a deadline of December 15, 2014 and Level I and II entries (grades 4-6 and 7-8) have a deadline of January 15, 2015. This archives workshop is designed for participants who have some experience working with archival materials and have already gained a basic understanding of archival principals. Participants will learn advanced skills in how to rehouse a variety of items, including various ephemera and scrapbooks. Please join us at the Library of Michigan [cid:image002.png@01CFE239.309FB560] Presenting at 1:30 will be Sandy Bryson & Brandon Schroeder on the Great Lakes Fisheries Heritage Trail The Great Lakes Fisheries Heritage Consortium reflects the work of a statewide network of organizations collaborating beyond restoration and preservation of fisheries heritage artifacts to envision and implement strategies for how these assets can be more ambitiously leveraged in advancing coastal tourism, community development, and Great Lakes literacy and stewardship through education and interpretation. Sandy Bryson is the Secretary of the Board of Directors, Michigan Maritime Museum and chair of its Grants Committee, which recently wrote a successful Coastal Zone Management grant application to restore the Museum's 1939 wooden, gill-net fish tug, the Evelyn S. He serves as the Museum's representative to the Michigan Fisheries Heritage Consortium. Brandon Schroeder is a Michigan Sea Grant Extension Educator who works with coastal communities in northeast Michigan to apply science-based knowledge to address Great Lakes issues locally. His Sea Grant Extension efforts involve fisheries science, sustainable coastal tourism development, and Great Lakes education. He provides co-leadership for the Great Lakes Fisheries Heritage Consortium and newly established Great Lakes Fisheries Heritage Trail in Michigan.
