Dear listserv members, For the last several years you've been receiving messages from me about the amazing programming and events happening in the ASCLA and RUSA divisions of ALA. It's been a joy to meet and communicate with many of you off-list, and to even meet some of you in person at conferences! I wanted to let you all know that you'll only be hearing from me a few more times over the next couple of weeks, as I've accepted a position at a Chicago-based organization that provides professional development resources and events for the nonprofit sector! My last day at ALA will be Oct. 4. I appreciate all of the interest, warmth and kindness that you have expressed during my tenure at ALA! Recommendations for DVD Resurfacing Machines

Hello, One of our member libraries is interested in purchasing a disk resurfacing machine for their DVDs, and they have noticed that the prices range widely from about $150 to $3000. Obviously, they would like something that will be dependable and sturdy enough to do the job without breaking the bank. It would be greatly appreciated if others would share information about what resurfacing machines so that we have a better idea of what might work best for them. I would be happy to compile results and share with the list if others might be interested in this as well. I also kept copies of the photos if it becomes an issue in the future. We don't have a policy per se, but we tend to let them sit for about three months. Our procedure is, after an item has been identified as damaged, we notify the patron that they will be billed for the cost of the item plus a processing fee. The item then stays on our damaged shelf until the patron has paid or for about three months, at which time we evaluate whether we should get rid of the item or not. I'd be curious to hear others' responses. Conservation and Collections Care Camp - Nov. 20

We anticipate will be an opportunity for those who take care of collections, and other interested folk, to share your experiences and questions via presentations and discussions.
