FYI for those looking for grants for performers or cultural programming, the MI Humanities Council will be taking grant applications starting next week. At that time, nonprofit Michigan organizations can begin submitting grant requests to bring Touring performers, storytellers and cultural programming into their communities. All grant-funded events must be held between Oct. 10, 2013, and Aug. 17, 2014. Applications must be submitted through the online portal from the humanities council. Funds are available on first-come, first-serve basis. The Commerce Township Community Library is seeking a part-time (28 hrs/wk) library assistant. This position requires a Bachelor's degree, customer service experience (preferably library experience), basic computer skills, and a flexible, friendly, approachable and enthusiastic manner with public and staff. Compensation is $10.50 per hour. Some evening and weekend hours are included. Job duties include staffing the Circulation Desk, processing interlibrary loans, and processing and cataloging library materials. Advanced E-rate Training - October 29

The 2013 Advanced E-rate Training has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 29, 2013. The all-day workshop will be held at the Library of Michigan. Registration is now open. Linda Schatz will lead the workshop which will cover any updates provided by the SLD during their Fall Training Workshops. She will also focus on procurement and the Form 471 along with other information needed to submit an application during the application window. Provided that the online Form 470 and 471 Training site is available, we will also review how to complete and file the Form 470 and the Form 471 online. This workshop will be a follow up to the Beginners E-rate Workshop held in June and will focus on higher-level issues that are encountered during the application and review processes. Beginners are also welcome but should review the SLD web site<http://www.solutionwhere.com/lom/cw/www.usac.org/sl/> before attending to familiarize themselves with the terminology and the application processes. Disaster Planning Workshop Just Around the Corner

Don't forget to register for the upcoming Risk Management and Disaster Recovery Programs<https://members.mcls.org/workshops/viewcourse.html?id=338> brought to you by MCLS, the Cooperative Directors Association and the Library of Michigan. The workshop will be taught over two days, September 10 and November 8, 2013. Both days will be held at Delta Township District Library in Lansing from 9:00am to 3:30pm. On September 10 attendees will learn practical hands-on techniques in disaster management with internationally recognized expert Jeanne Drewes. Attendees will tour a library to identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities to better prepare against disaster. The first day will conclude with an informational session on developing a disaster plan. On November 8 attendees will discuss, ask questions and finalize their own disaster plans. The issue of property insurance will also be addressed. The cost for the workshop is $120 and this covers both Sept 8 and Nov 10 as well as breakfast and lunch each day.
