Looking for a sign to inform patrons about the library's service animal policy

Hello all, The Vicksburg District Library has had some issues come up with patrons who bring in pets or animals they claim are service animals but are badly behaved. We are thinking of putting up a sign to inform people that we allow well-behaved service animals but not pets or emotional support animals. Do you have a sign that you put up in your library that is comprehensive and legal? New Director at the Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library

The Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library Board of Trustees unanimously appointed Christina Markowski to permanently fill the role of Library Director following a series of candidate interviews. Markowski had been serving as Interim Director since September 2024 and has been on staff with the Library since 2015. Through the course of her career at the Library, she has worked in youth services, STEM programming, circulation services, and more. Markowski earned her Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University. Markowski is an Alpena County native and is excited to be taking on this new role. “I am thrilled to enter the Director role at Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library. I love my hometown library and look forward to being a part of the library's future." Executive Director - Virginia Library Association The Virginia Library Association<https://www.vla.org/> (VLA) Executive Board seeks a transformative and energetic professional to become the organization's next Executive Director and lead VLA to continued success. The Virginia Library Association is committed to supporting all Virginia libraries and increasing membership value by enhancing library services, supporting library staff, and promoting the profession of librarianship to advance literacy and learning while ensuring equitable access to information throughout the Commonwealth. The next Executive Director will be an influential leader who possesses political savvy and strong advocacy skills to engage with legislators and stakeholders. The Executive Director will manage two staff members, a Manager of Communications and Member Engagement and a Bookkeeper. VLA is supported by membership dues, program fees, income from the Annual Conference, other Association events (Professional Associates, The Innovative Library Classroom, etc.) and conferences, investments, Jobline, and fundraising programs to support the organization's goals. The ideal candidate will be visible in and accessible to the Virginia library community, while being committed to enhancing and uplifting the efforts of library professionals across the state. Key initiatives for the Executive Director include actively engaging with legislators about intellectual freedom and for increased funding to Virginia libraries, bringing professionals together and overseeing all business operations and logistics of the VLA Annual Conference, coordination of VLA Executive Committee nominations and elections, helping to create a more diverse and inclusive membership, internally collaborating with VLA's Manager of Communications and Member Engagement to further the mission of the organization, streamlining processes and improving workflows, advocating for libraries of all types at the state level, and impressing upon the legislature the importance and relevance of libraries. Responsibilities: The Executive Director serves as the organization's chief administrator by providing management and oversight for all programs and initiatives and acts as the key spokesperson and the face of the organization. The Executive Director oversees the annual nomination and election process to select Executive Committee members and is the primary liaison to all internal and external partners/stakeholders, government officials, and the larger community of library-oriented organizations, professionals, and associates. This individual is responsible for the creation and distribution of all the association publications, developing and presenting an annual budget plan, policy development and revision, and proposed by-law changes to the Executive Committee for approval. The Executive Director may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in the job description. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess five or more years of progressively more responsible experience in libraries, with management, administrative and/or executive level experience for at least three of those years. A Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university or CAE Certification<https://www.asaecenter.org/programs/cae-certification> is preferred. A combination of library and/or association executive experience and certification will also be considered. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, strength in advocacy, management skills, accounting savvy, and be self-motivated to envision a plan for the organization. National Walking Month (May) Presentation - El Camino de Santiago

Good morning, I wanted to reach out and spread the word of our extremely popular program we had in May, "Talk the Walk: El Camino de Santiago", presented by David Larwa. I wanted to celebrate National Walking Month in a fun way, and David Larwa happened to contact us a few months before, and I am super glad I reached out! David has made the Camino pilgrimage *multiple* times. I can't recall the amount, but he knows his stuff. He has walked in many different countries as well, teaches origami, is a co-founder of the Southeast Michigan chapter of the American Pilgrims on the Camino <https://americanpilgrims.org/iwpmap_directory/southeast-michigan/>, and was just the most engaged and informative speaker I've seen in a long time. He was extremely passionate and had a really thorough presentation put together about the El Camino de Santiago, both its context / purpose as well as the pilgrimage itself. Patrons were completely engaged, we had a full house and then some, and we went about ten minutes over the allotted time and every single patron stayed. He brought his walking materials he travels with, TONS of books on the subject of walking as well as the Camino, and brought a lot of energy. Please consider reaching out to David to get a better sense of who he is and what he has done, as I can't even begin to continue elaborating on his qualifications and adventures. He was a pleasure to have, and he is interested in working with other libraries in Michigan! The Southgate Veterans Memorial Library has several pieces of furniture to give away, details attached. The circulation desk and shelves can be dismantled, everything else comes as is.
