ON-CALL CIRCULATION ASSISTANT POSITION SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the Circulation Services Supervisor, the On-Call Circulation Assistant provides direct and indirect services to library patrons. This is a provisional on-call position, which provides no benefits, and is non-exempt from overtime. The nature of the work requires daytime, evening, and weekend hours. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES · Assists in other Circulation Services workgroups as directed. · Accepts special assignments or duties in support of the library’s goals and objectives. · Stays informed of library news and events via review of all forms of library communication: website, email, SharePoint, library newsletter and blog. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS · Prior experience in a public library or comparable customer service experience. · Familiarity with Innovative Interfaces Inc.’s Sierra automation system. · Knowledge of library operations and services, including an understanding of and adherence to the privacy rights of patrons. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS · Sufficient physical agility to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, sit, lift up to 40 lbs., and push carts weighing up to 200 lbs. · Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to grab, hold, and shelve materials and read small print on labels. · Ability to efficiently review, comprehend and produce a wide variety of materials in both electronic and hard copy form. · Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in writing and verbally. · Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions in a fast-paced environment. Covid-19 has become the greatest health challenge that humanity has faced in over 100 years. What can we learn from this experience? *11**th** Annual Write Michigan Short Story Contest* *Grand Rapids, Michigan *– Kent District Library and Schuler Books join the Traverse Area District Library and the Canton Public Library in announcing the eleventh annual Write Michigan Short Story Contest. Writers of all ages are invited to enter, with separate categories for youth, teens and adults. Writers can enter in either English or Spanish. winning entries will receive cash prizes and publication. The CEO functions with a high degree of latitude for independent action within the scope of the organizational policy set by the Library Board. The IndyPL CEO directly supervises the Chief Public Services Officer, the Chief Financial Officer, the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer, the Strategic Planning & Assessment Officer, and department directors including Collection Management, Selection & Acquisition; Communications; Facilities; Human Resources; and Innovation & Technology. Qualifications: A minimum of five years of professional (or paraprofessional equivalent) library experience and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university are required. Non-MLS applicants who have not completed the educational requirement may be considered if the degree can be completed within three years of hire. Experience as a public library director in a large urban library system is highly preferred. Experience managing trauma-informed care in the workplace is desirable. Essential attributes and skills include: leading strategic change and meeting Library goals; implementing and communicating clearly the organizational vision in a continuously changing environment; leading people through effective communication while consistently demonstrating integrity and honesty, fostering teamwork, developing staff, and effectively resolving conflicts; demonstrating sound business acumen and decision-making through the strategic use of data to understand and manage human, financial, and information resources; and effectively building coalitions both internally and externally to achieve common goals in alignment with library strategies. Library Director Opening – DeWitt District Library Mid-Michigan Library Director Opportunity The DeWitt District Library Board of Trustees seeks an energetic, creative and progressive leader to serve as Library Director. With property the library owns and visions of a new library, the DeWitt District Library Board asks its next director to imagine the next chapter in the story of the DeWitt District Library. Located a few miles north of Michigan’s State Capital and Michigan State University, this bedroom community of Lansing is known for its excellent school system and numerous walking paths that take you to neighborhood parks, area schools, coffee houses, shops, and of course, to the library. [image: image.png][image: image.png] The current Library building is approximately 5,600 square feet and serves 21,000 residents with a collection of 75,291 items and an electronic collection designed to meet the needs of the approximately 13,000 card holders. The Library Director, together with 16 dynamic and cohesive staff members, serves this community with passion as witnessed by their recent summer reading initiative and its strong, ongoing outreach efforts which include collaborations with the DeWitt Area Recreational Authority, the Farmers Market, area schools and local community businesses. A recent collaboration between a local business and the Library resulted in the creation of a custom built Book Bike that will allow the Library to expand its outreach efforts within the community, attending outreach events, checking out materials and promoting the library’s services. The library is supported by a millage of 0.9688, resulting in an annual budget of $1,000,000. The Trustees of the DeWitt District Library Board are seeking an individual who, - Actively participates in the development of the next strategic plan for the library - Brings experience with library building projects in support of future expansion - Engages their community to promote the library to all citizens, and - Supports their team members in personal and professional growth Qualifications & Compensation: Qualified candidates will have a Master of Library Science degree, along with five or more years of progressive responsibility as a library leader. Level-1 certificate from the Library of Michigan (or ability to obtain Level-1 upon arrival), and a demonstrated history of progressive responsibility managing a library or department within a library. The ideal candidate will possess strong people and communication skills, applying them tirelessly to promote the welfare of the community library.
