The audience for the survey is public library staff who played an active role in administering or running 2023 summer library programming. One person per library could fill it out, or multiple library staff from the same library could complete the sections of the survey most relevant to their work; e.g. children, teen, or adult programs. * Please coordinate with your colleagues on who will fill it out, especially if you are in a multi-branch system. * This does NOT need to be filled out by Directors. (Adult/YA/Children program overseers can complete their own portions.) * EVEN IF YOU DID NOT USE "ALL TOGETHER NOW" AS YOUR THEME, we invite you to complete the survey! Is this survey required? Health programming offered at many public libraries across the United States is broad and diverse in both content and format. Libraries develop programs in-house and in collaboration with partners that are offered online, in the library, or in the community. These include skills-building programs (e.g., nutrition education classes and food gardening), talks by health professionals or other experts, physical activity classes, oral health programs, health fairs, and referrals to local community resources (e.g., mental health, food banks, health insurance resources, etc.). While public libraries are regarded as trusted sources of health information in their communities and offer vital health programs, the scope of health information services and programming currently provided in public libraries in the state of Michigan has not been documented. Goal of Study The overall purpose of this survey is to examine how Michigan public libraries are supporting the health and well-being of members in their communities. This study further has the potential to build a better understanding of the challenges reported by library directors related to efforts to support the health of their communities. County Librarian - Laramie County Library System (WY) The Laramie County Library System (WY)<https://lclsonline.org/> seeks a confident leader and dynamic professional as its next County Librarian. LCLS is an award-winning library system that sets the bar for service regionally and nationally due in part to the strong support of the County Commission and other County organizations. Named the Library of the Year by Gale/Library Journal in 2008, Nancy Pearl told USA Today that Laramie County Library System was one of the top ten libraries in the country to "find a nook and read a book." Livability.com and mommynearest.com named LCLS as one of the top ten children's libraries in the United States. Employees enjoy a supportive work culture that invests in their growth. The population served is 102,266 in the county with around 65,061 in the Greater Cheyenne Area. The talented and experienced staff (61.68 FTE) serve over 72,000 registered users with an annual budget of $10.5 million and a 425,000-item collection across three locations (Cheyenne, Burns, and Pine Bluffs) along with a very popular bookmobile. In 2021, voters passed a specific purpose tax to replace the 16-year-old vehicle currently in use with a new vehicle which is expected to roll out in FY2025. Responsibilities: The County Librarian will administer all aspects of LCLS to ensure service to all citizens as outlined in the library's mission statement in a responsible, efficient, and effective manner; serve as the Board of Directors' agent in administering library programs, personnel, and finances to provide patrons with exceptional service and resources relevant to community needs; provide technical expertise and advice to the Board of Directors to facilitate long-range planning and act as the library's chief spokesperson for enhancing the role of the library in the community; plan, organize, direct, and manage library services in conformity with the policies established by the Board of Directors, the laws of the State of Wyoming, and the United States; and be a role model of exceptional public service for all employees as well as represent the library in a professional and appropriate manner both at work and in the community. Question regarding fraudulent checks

Good afternoon, Have any other libraries experienced checks mailed to library vendors with remittance addresses in Atlanta, GA being fraudulently cashed? My library has had four checks sent to B&T and Cengage fraudulently cashed in the last six months. The three checks were mailed by the City of Roseville to the verified P.O. boxes in Atlanta and were cashed at both a large bank and a party store. Our library was notified by B&T and Cengage that they had not received the checks which our Controller's office verified were cut, mailed and cashed. After contacting the City's bank, Comerica, the City Controller contacted the local police when images of the checks showed that they were either "washed" with the payee name being removed with white-out and rewritten or signed by an unknow individual and cashed. Local police notified other agencies and fraud claims were submitted to the post office. The City also had two checks (Autozone and Firestone) that were sent to post office boxes in Atlanta cashed fraudulently recently. The City and Library will eventually be reimbursed. For now we are paying all invoices for vendors doing business through an Atlanta post office box by credit card as the City sets up ACH. Since most libraries use B&T and Cengage, I thought there may be other cases of fraud. National Library Card Sign Up Month Questions

Hi all, I am the new User Experience Librarian at Shelby Township Library. One of my first projects as the UX Librarian is to have a large event for National Library Card Sign Up Month in September. I was told in the past NLCSM has not been promoted that much in the library or by the township. My reasons for doing a bigger event are we were closed because of Covid, then closed for construction of a new building, then we reclosed due to a burst ceiling pipe. We are finally completely open, with our gorgeous new building. As a result, many of our patrons do not know we have a new address or that we are open to the public again. My questions are: What kind of changes in foot traffic did your library see during NLSCM? Times of day when it was the busiest, depending on location and community makeup? What kind of goodies did you use to promote the sign up month? How does your library do library card creation; paper applications, patron facing computer, online cards? As a librarian new to this role, what nuggets of wisdom to people have to share for Library Card Sign Up Month.
