New Marketing Materials
by Wambaugh, Stephanie (LEO) 11 Jul '24

11 Jul '24

Good morning, If your library needs any BTBL applications<https://www.michigan.gov/leo/-/media/Project/Websites/leo/Documents/BSBP-BT…>, brochures, or posters to use for outreach in your communities, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly. We have recently redesigned both our applications and brochures and would be happy to get the updated content on the way to any library that requests it. Some of our public library partners use these materials during their homebound or bookmobile outreach. Others put the information near their large print or audio book collections within the library. Still others create displays or keep the information at the reference desk. As a brief overview, the Braille and Talking Book Library<https://www.michigan.gov/leo/bureaus-agencies/bureau-of-services-for-blind-…> offers accessible audio and braille books to Michigan residents unable to comfortably read standard print materials due to a visual, physical, or reading disability. Potential patrons apply for service to access over 150,000 books that can be downloaded directly with our free mobile App, BARD<https://www.michigan.gov/leo/-/media/Project/Websites/leo/Images/BSBP-BTBL/…>, or they can request one of our Digital Talking Book Players and books can be delivered directly to them on cartridge through the regular U.S. postal service. Public libraries can help spread the word about our accessible library in many ways. Feel free to reach out if you are unfamiliar with our service and would like more details. Thank you, Stephanie Wambaugh, Librarian 12 Team Lead and Outreach Services Michigan Braille and Talking Book Library (BTBL) Bureau of Services for Blind Persons P.O. Box 30007 702 W. MeL Minute: Celebrate Ice Cream!
by Ann Kaskinen 11 Jul '24

[cid:image004.png@01DAD36B.D003C3C0]When I was a little kid, my dad traveled door to door delivering milk in glass bottles throughout Antrim and Kalkaska Counties. By the time I was 10, he had a few large trucks with commercial refrigeration and distributed a variety of dairy products—including ice cream—into Charlevoix County as well. The most magical thing (for a kid) that resulted from his expanding business? Damaged boxes. We had a freezer dedicated to unsellable boxes of orange sherbet Push-Ups®, ice cream sandwiches, Neapolitan bars, Fudgesicles®, Creamsicles®, and chocolate- and strawberry-swirled sundae cups. Not surprisingly, access to this bounty spearheaded my lifelong love for ice cream. As we enjoy a scoop or two during National Ice Cream Month, consider learning more about one of our favorite nostalgic treats through the Michigan eLibrary<https://mel.org/welcome> (MeL) eResources<https://mel.org/az.php>. Celebrations Ice cream is so endearing to Americans that the National Day Calendar<https://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/> shines a light on 6 different days in July to celebrate the tasty indulgence. This Fresh Peach Ice Cream: Because Who Wants to Cook?<https://research.ebsco.com/linkprocessor/plink?id=ae51a936-9b09-3f2d-964a-5…> recipe from AcreageLife in MasterFILE Complete<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=e…> can get you ready for National Peach Ice Cream Day (July 17). To help you weigh in on which supermarket ice cream you should buy to celebrate National Vanilla Ice Cream Day (July 23), Consumer Reports offers a review<https://research.ebsco.com/linkprocessor/plink?id=4c3215f6-3b1a-3f7d-99a6-f…> of calories, cost, and taste for several varieties of vanilla. Rounding out the month, honor National Hot Fudge Sundae Day (July 25) with help from 6 Ways to Sundae<https://research.ebsco.com/linkprocessor/plink?id=27a3ba6b-f74f-3b9c-a042-5…>, an article in Food & Wine from Hobbies & Crafts Source<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=e…>.
