CROSS-POSTED [cid:3eaece7e-faf2-49c2-a8c4-7f55335b094f] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 8, 2024 For more information, please contact: Scott Garrison Executive Director Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) garrisons(a)mcls.org Midwest Collaborative for Library Services welcomes new eLicensing and Collection Resources Manager Sarah Beaubien Lansing, MI—The Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Beaubien as eLicensing and Collection Resources (eLCR) Manager, effective September 3, 2024. Beaubien brings a wealth of experience in library leadership and collection and budget management. She joins MCLS from her current role as Associate University Librarian (Academic) at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. In this role, she has been instrumental in steering the Archival & Special Collections, Digital Strategies & Technologies, and Learning & Curriculum Support teams. Beaubien has also been a key player in the library’s engagement with the university's academic mission and has coordinated the library's contributions to the Institutional Quality Assurance Process. Before this role, she was Associate Dean of Curriculum, Research, and User Services at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. Beaubien’s extensive expertise encompasses management, budget oversight, collections, scholarly communication, instruction, user services, library facilities, and pandemic planning. Her return to Michigan marks a significant step for MCLS as it continues to advance its mission of facilitating resource sharing and collaborating with other organizations to benefit Indiana and Michigan libraries. "In previous positions in Michigan academic libraries, I benefited from engaging with MCLS trainings, workshops, collections licensing, and the Michigan Shared Print Initiative (MI SPI). I'm delighted to join the excellent team at MCLS and look forward to working with member libraries, the board, and vendor partners to offer collections and services to Indiana and Michigan libraries," Beaubien said. Executive Director Scott Garrison looks forward to welcoming Beaubien to MCLS’s team, noting that “Sarah’s years of experience, emphasis on building relationships across the library landscape, and ability to lead the eLCR team and join our dedicated management team will serve MCLS and our libraries very well in coming years. As we navigate the transition from Stephanie Davis to Sarah Beaubien in this role, I’m confident that we will be in a great position to continue forward. We wish Stephanie a long, happy, and healthy retirement, and I hope you’ll join us in welcoming Sarah to this very important role at MCLS.” *** Mary Ruthko (she/her) Marketing and Communication Coordinator Midwest Collaborative for Library Services 517-507-4149 ruthkom(a)mcls.org<mailto:ruthkom@mcls.org> [cid:550d5393-942c-45dc-964c-5141ca941601] mcls.org<https://www.mcls.org/> | Facebook<https://www.facebook.com/mcls.org> | X<https://twitter.com/mclsorg> | LinkedIn<https://www.linkedin.com/company/midwest-collaborative-for-library-services> Schedule a meeting with me<https://outlook.office.com/bookwithme/user/82504839b07649009896aaa10a3d2395…>

Security Cameras and DVRs
by Jessica Luther 08 Aug '24

08 Aug '24

Hello! Our security cameras and DVR setup have gotten to the point where components are no longer available and unable to connect to newer systems. We are exploring options that won't break the bank and also considering adding additional security components like panic buttons and a video doorbell for our delivery entrance. We would love to know what you're using. Thanks! *Jessica Luther (she/her) * Assistant Director *Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library* 211 N. Presenter Recommendation- Michael Wilson Computer Classes
by Turbok, Joseph 08 Aug '24

08 Aug '24

The St. Clair County Library System recently hosted Michael Wilson for an Android/iPhone Basics class. Mike was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and very professional. Patrons were asking if/when we could bring him back for more classes. Mike teaches a wide variety of technology topics. Very recommended. I have included his website below. Program recommendation: The Story of Vernors Ginger Ale
by David Stokes 08 Aug '24

08 Aug '24

Hello there, Last night we hosted Keith Wunderlich, author of *The Images of America* book *Vernor's Ginger Ale* and president of the Vernor's Ginger Ale Collector's Club, for "The Story of Vernors Ginger Ale." Keith is a long-time collector of Vernors memorabilia and brought samples of some of this collection that he's been adding to for the past 45+ years. He's also very knowledgeable about his topic, and was both a funny & entertaining speaker. Our library provided some Vernors as refreshments--including a case of Black Cherry Vernors that was generously donated to the library, which made our evening just a little more tasty. Now a retired public school educator & administrator, Keith has been getting out on the road to share his love for and the lore of Vernors to libraries, senior centers, retirement homes, etc. David M.
