Digital repositories for MeL

Hello Colleagues, We are looking for digital repositories that are OAI-PMH compliant for harvesting into the Michigan eLibrary. We designated for harvesting the projects that were grant funded and added to MeL Michigana (http://mel.org/michigana) but not all of them are OAI-PMH compliant so they are not harvestable per our current contract. This is why we now have additional capacity to continue with other OAI-PMH compliant content. We have posted a collection development strategy online at http://mel.org/index.php?P=MeL--AboutMeL that you can review to get an idea of what content we seek for MeL. If you have a repository that you think is a good statewide resource and it is OAI-PMH compliant, please complete the attached spreadsheet and return it to me off list. I can receive your information at any time you are ready to offer up your resource for MeL, however I am looking for up to ten to add to our current harvesting contract, so the sooner you get me information, the more likely it can be included in the initial wave. Michigan Reads! - Survey

The 2013 Michigan Reads program has been great and is still going strong, but please remember the program survey as you wrap up your events and activities. Singleface shelving needed

We are finally near the finish line of cleaning and painting our Bath Township Library Center. Book donations are flowing in and we are desperate for single-face 66" or higher metal shelving. We need 10 sections to line the walls of our teen/tween area. If anyone has a spare carousel shelving unit we could surely use that too. Thanks to all who have offered shelving in the past. Linda K. Sharing Library Ideas

Hello Librarians!Now that we have moved past the excitement of our summer programming, I am working on updating the 'Grants, etc' tab on the site. I would like to add a folder of links to policy manuals so that we can all find them when we need to update or rewrite a policy. So, if you would, please email me a link to your policy manual (or just attach it). But don't forget that I am always looking for fun exciting programs that have worked in your library. So, if you have any Holiday programs that you are especially proud of, please email them over! Don't know about Sharing Library Ideas? Well, its a PLINKIT site started by a frustrated librarian who was just getting started and had a hard time finding programs that work in libraries. Adult Literacy Programming in Public Libraries

Are you interested in doing something with adult literacy at your library but not sure where to start? I wanted to share a new FREE resource I created about supporting and starting adult literacy programs in public libraries: http://salipl.org. This website includes information on why public libraries are perfect for supporting adult literacy, success stories from libraries that have implemented programs and information about working with adult learners. In the "Program Toolkit" portion of the website, there is an outline of all the steps involved in connecting with Adult Literacy programs in your area, building a literacy collection, finding potential tutors, setting up tutor training, advertising for learners, doing assessments, learner placement, tutoring session logistics and keeping track of learners and tutors. The site has example presentations that you can adapt for potential tutors and other stakeholders as well as templates for just about all the paperwork you could possibly need dealing with assessments, placement and tracking. I was able to make these all readily available thanks to the generous people at Washtenaw Literacy. There is a growing FAQ section and everyone is welcome to send me questions through the site that I will be happy to answer. International Collection Librarians' Roundtable

The International Collection Librarians' Roundtable is a grassroots, non-partisan group of Michigan librarians interested in developing international language, ESL, and literacy collections.
