Hello Everyone, As the snow closes in on us, we have more time to do wonderful indoor activities... like writing award nominations! I've attached several award nomination forms to get you started. So please make sure to get your nominations in for the 2014 Loleta Fyan Small/Rural Libraries Conference. Award nominations are due by January 31st and you can turn them in digitally this year. Hello All, Please let your Friends groups know that there is one week left to apply for the FOML Outstanding Michigan FOML Award. Application details are below: Friends of Michigan Libraries (FOML) 2013 Outstanding Michigan Friends of the Library Award Did your Friends of the Library carry out an outstanding project or a number of successful activities in your community during 2013 that had a significant impact on your library’s services to the community? The award will be given to a Michigan Friends group for a specific project carried out in 2013 or based on the full scope of the group’s activities during 2013. Applications will be judged by the FOML Membership & Marketing Committee on the following criteria: 1. Planning: Involvement of the Friends, library, and community in the use of resources, an innovative and appropriate activity, and measurable outcomes (e.g., attendance at event, increase in patron use of the library, etc.). 2. Implementation: Public relations, broad membership involvement, and use of resources. 3. Evaluation: Assessment of activity or program with measurable results. 4. Innovation: New idea(s) for program or activity, creative involvement of community and specific citizens, and creative use of public relations. 5. Community Involvement: Evidence of community involvement in planning and implementation. The winning Friends group will receive $400 and a plaque, with an invitation to attend the FOML Annual Membership Meeting in 2014 to receive the award. To be eligible for this award your Friends group must be a 2013 FOML member (membership information can be found at www.foml.org <http://www.foml.org/> ) and completed the project or activities during the 2013 calendar year. LearningExpress Library and the GED

Hi All--would like to let you all know that we plan to switch over to LearningExpress Library (LEL) 3.0 in MeL by early February 2014. As you may know the GED has been revamped and is new and different as of this month, January 2014. LearningExpress has informed us that the 2014 GED practice tests available in LEL will be released on a rolling basis. The first practice tests will be available by the end of the first quarter of 2014 (Feb/March). We plan to keep the current version of LEL up through the end of June 2014 at which time we will just run the new or 3.0 version of the product. When using version 3.0, users will have to create a new account; accounts from the current LEL will not carry over. Please let us know if you have any questions. Removable Label Suggestions

Hi, For a number of years we have purchased removable Flag-Its from Robert Howard Co., Inc. These removable flags had a ¼" dot with a 1/8" wide tab. Unfortunately the company seems to have gone out of business as we are no longer able to reach them by phone or by fax and their website domain is now for sale. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a company that might offer similar removable flags. We have already checked with Demco and Brodart, but neither have what we need.
