OverDrive To Enter the eMagazine and eNewspaper Business with NOOK Newsstand

All, A librarian at a TLN member library sent this link to me late yesterday (thanks, Cathy). Sharing this not to favor one vendor over another but rather, because there are many Zinio subscribing public libraries in Michigan, and many more OverDrive subscribing public libraries in Michigan. This is something to watch, not to mention something to keep in mind as a potential option when your library's, or your library cooperative's, Zinio renewal time comes around. http://blogs.overdrive.com/front-page-library-news/2014/10/08/nook-and-over… Jim Jim Flury Technical Services Manager The Library Network 41365 Vincenti Court Novi, MI 48375 248-536-3100 x133 Fax 248-536-3098 jflury(a)tln.lib.mi.us

Novice cataloger seeks catalog cleaning information!!
by Julie Morris 09 Oct '14

09 Oct '14

Does anyone know a good reference for tidying up a library catalog? We'll be switching to Verso in January and would like to do a quick (hopefully inexpensive--preferably in-house) clean up. I've been involved in cataloging on a limited basis--am just taking MARC Intro. and MeLCat Cataloging webinars, and have been trained up by our very recently retired cataloger. Appreciate any thoughts! Thanks, Julie Morris

Activity Kits
by Crystal Jolly 08 Oct '14

08 Oct '14

Hello everyone, I omitted information from Herrick District Library in Holland, Michigan in the summary I posted on MichLib about activity kits at other libraries. Their information is below. Please forgive my omission. Thank you again for all the feedback. Herrick District Library has themed story times that are packed into clear bags. In the past the bags included activities and some CDs and DVDs, but constantly filling bags and providing fresh activities were too labor intensive. Regular patrons and care providers check them out. They have over 100 bags and sometimes they only have one or two on the wall. Crystal Jolly Children's Librarian Lincoln Township Public Library 2099 W. John Beers Rd.
