Letters about Literature judges wanted

The Library of Michigan is looking for judges for the Letters about Literature program. Librarians and teachers familiar with English language arts education, young adult literature, and literary programming for grades 4-12 are welcome. Judging includes reading approximately 50 letters sometime in February or March and one meeting to discuss which letters should be the winner and finalists. Meeting attendance in person is encouraged, but conference call attendance is okay. If you are interested, please contact me and let me know if you are interested in Level I (grades 4-6), Level II (grades 7-8), or Level III (grades 9-12). We are the Michigan host for this national program from the Library of Congress. It is reading-writing contest that invites readers in grades 4 through 12 to write letters to authors of books that have changed their lives. This program gives students the opportunity to reflect deeply on a book. As readers, they come to understand how literature is more than assignment, but also a life changing experience. Children and teens can participate on their own or as part of a library or class project. Level III entries (grades (9-12) have a deadline of December 15, 2014 and Level I and II entries (grades 4-6 and 7-8) have a deadline of January 15, 2015. BookFlix Webinars in October

Hi All--Skip Dyson, Scholastic trainer, will be doing 3 webinar trainings on BookFlix in MeL on October 6-8 all at 3:00 pm. Each has a separate link/login. BookFlix is an eResource that you can use for early literacy development; it's great for storytime--project the book on your whiteboard, big screen so all can see! The Library of Michigan has a strong commitment to early literacy. Not only do we support that commitment with our book programs--Michigan Reads! and Michigan Notable Books--but we have also added a strong collection of early literacy subscription eResources to the Michigan eLibrary. Michigan children being able to read at grade level by 3rd grade is a goal we wholeheartedly support and work to achieve. AWE Digital Learning Solutions as recently approached LM about their 2014 Multi-State Special Group Purchase plan available now through December 15th. In February 2014, 95 youth librarians, youth library workers, and students gathered at Clinton-Macomb Public Library for a truly excellent day of professional development, idea-sharing, networking, and learning, unconference style. In 2015, we'll gather April 24th at Kalamazoo Public Library. Software for wireless with login requirements - do you recommend one?

Hi, My library has recently had two notices of copyright infringement from our internet provider. While I understand from our lawyer that the Library is not liable to the copyright owner under DCMA's Safe Harbor clause, the internet provider has mentioned in its notice that it can drop us as a customer if the illegal downloading continues. To that end, I would like to buy software that requires wireless users to have a library card so that we can identify and possibly suspend an infringer's use of the internet; I believe that the internet provider would be happy with that.
