Mel Minute - LearningExpress Library eBooks
by Borrelli, Eunice (MDE) 21 May '15

21 May '15

Hello all, MeL database LearningExpress Library<http://galesupport.com/migeoipcheck/migeoipcheck-lxpress3.php?database=MAIN> is a vast collection of tests, tutorials, computer courses, nine unique learning centers and, eBooks! Usually, LearningExpress resources are used online - in a library, at school, with a tutor, or at home. But sometimes, online usage isn't available or convenient. Just because a learner doesn't have a computer or internet access doesn't mean they can't practice algebra problems, review a study guide for a professional exam, or read up on test-taking tips. eBooks available in LearningExpress can be downloaded and opened in Adobe Reader and once downloaded, they can be read offline or even printed. These are the same high quality print publications many libraries purchase for their collections. So, you can reassure your patrons that they can begin/continue their learning with LearningExpress Library eBooks whether they're connected or not. Michigan residents or Michigan library access only. MeL Minutes are brought to you by the Library of Michigan. Want more information on MeL? Stay tuned for next week's MeL Minute available on many Michigan library listservs, email us at contact(a)mel.org<mailto:contact@mel.org> or visit mel.org<http://mel.org/>. Teen Art/Drawing workshop presenter
by Kenneth B. Bignotti 21 May '15

21 May '15

Colleagues: I had booked a local art/drawing workshop presenter to do two comics drawing workshops as part of our Teen Summer Reading Program. Unfortunately, they had to cancel. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a replacement in the southeast Michigan area for a fair fee that I could book on short notice for a June and July date. Thanks in advance! Program recommendation 1913 Copper Strike
by Maren Kroening 20 May '15

20 May '15

Hello, We had a really great presentation here at the Miller Library the other night. Author Donna Searight Simons spoke about the 1913 Copper Miner's Strike in the UP. She's also written a novel about the strike and had copies for sale/book signing, as well. We attracted a good sized group of seniors on top of our regulars for this program and it was amazing how many of our patrons had family connections to Copper Country. I've attached her flyer and you can feel free to contact her at dksyooper(a)yahoo.com Thank you, Maren Kroening Branch Librarian - Arthur Miller Branch Warren Public Library 5460 Arden, Suite 303 Warren, MI 48092 586.751.5377 mkroening(a)cityofwarren.org

by Kat Boyer 20 May '15

20 May '15

Hi all, Our library was curious about Freegal. I've tried looking at the site, but I can't see information about library subscriptions or how to contact them for information regarding library usage. Does anyone have information about Freegal that they can pass on? Thanks! Kat Boyer Interim Director Benton Harbor Public Library

Looking for a speaker clarification
by Betz, Joyce 20 May '15

20 May '15

I apologize for the previous message, I have brain fog this morning, and I was not clear about what topic the committee would like the speaker to address. The committee would like to have a speaker who can talk about dealing with difficult patrons. Joyce Betz Staff Development and Training Coordinator Jackson District Library 244 W. Looking for a speaker
by Betz, Joyce 20 May '15

20 May '15

I am working with a committee to plan an All Staff Day in August for the Jackson District Library. I do not have a lot of detail about what want specifically, but They are meeting on June 2, and I was hoping I would have something to share with them. I am hoping that some of you may have some experience in speaking about this topic, or know someone who does. We have a small budget, and I know that it is short notice. Thank you in advance for your help. Joyce Betz Staff Development and Training Coordinator Jackson District Library 244 W. Michigan Ave. Jackson, MI 49201 517-788-4087 ext 1303 betzja(a)myjdl.com
