Hello Library Peeps: We have 150 or so black vinyl 8-disc capacity audiobook containers that we need to find a home for. The inner sleeves are affixed as a single unit, i.e., it's not like a ring-binder that you can pop open to remove or add individual sleeves. If you would like all or a portion of them, please reply and we will get them to you. -- Bill Wines Circulation & Technical Services Manager Commerce Township Community Library 2869 North Pontiac Trail Commerce, MI 48390 248.669.8108 ext.102 -- The information contained in this electronic message is intended only for the use of the designated recipient(s). All Welcome! Saturday October 10th at the Library of Michigan, 2:30-3:30 Author Ruth Ann Fruehauf will be talking about her book Singing Wheels and her grandfather's company of truck trailers in Michigan. To commemorate her grandfather's 1914 invention of the semi-trailer, Ruth Ann Fruehauf wrote a book, "Singing Wheels'" honoring the successes and accomplishments of the Fruehauf family legacy. The Fruehauf Trailer Company was the dominant trailer manufacture for nearly a century and became the 75th largest company in the world when it declared bankruptcy in 1997. It all started in a Detroit shop operated by a hard working German immigrant, August Fruehauf. After inventing the concept of the semi-trailer, the company went onto invent the automatic fifth wheel hitch, the dump trailer, the tanker trailer, refrigerated trailers and the shipping container. The colorful history is captured in a coffee table book with 90 pages of photographs from the family archives. by Borrelli, Eunice (MDE) 08 Oct '15

08 Oct '15

Hello all, A popular assignment for elementary grades through high school students is learning about countries throughout the world. MeL databases Britannica School Elementary<http://www.galesupport.com/migeoipcheck/migeoipcheck-brit.php?database=BREL…>, Middle<http://www.galesupport.com/migeoipcheck/migeoipcheck-brit.php?database=BRMD…>, and High<http://www.galesupport.com/migeoipcheck/migeoipcheck-brit.php?database=BRHI…> offer a wealth of information for students at each of these levels. Students can select from World Atlas, Compare Countries, Tour the U.S.A. and at the Elementary level, Geography Explorer. Need stats, articles, details on geography, people, history, economy, or plants and animals? All of these topics are covered at grade appropriate levels. Want to compare two different countries? That feature is available too and provides statistics, flag image, and articles and media for the selected countries. And, after joining the Britannica Community, educators/library staff have free access to lesson plans and saved content (the Educators link is in the upper right corner of each level opening page). Learning about other countries is exciting. Britannica School can help bring places near and far right to a student's computer. Michigan residents or Michigan library access only. MeL Minutes are brought to you by the Library of Michigan. Want more information on MeL? Stay tuned for next week's MeL Minute available on many Michigan library listservs, email us at contact(a)mel.org<mailto:contact@mel.org> or visit mel.org<http://mel.org/>.
