Hello all, When it comes to finding biographical resources, it's hard to beat the MeL database Biography and Genealogy Master Index<http://www.galesupport.com/migeoipcheck/migeoipcheck-gale.php?database=BGMI>. This index only resource contains entries found in over 1,000 volumes of biographical references - both current and retrospective - for nearly 5 million people! A basic search can be done by name only while an advanced search allows limiters of birth and death years or ranges and title/prefix/suffix, even, if a portrait is available. Sources indexed include publications from Facts on File, Oxford University Press, Marquis Who's Who (many series), National Geographic Society, Ward's, Congressional Directory, and Contemporary Series by Gale, (Authors, Literary Criticism, etc.). Looking for that hard to find individual and what their claim to fame is? Save the date! In July, MCLS and the Library of Michigan will be coming to a location near you to share information about recent developments/projects in Michigan’s library community, including a half-day session devoted to all things MeLCat and RIDES. Choose from seven opportunities to participate in one of these regional meetings and MeLCat Symposiums. The morning session will be updates about special library projects and initiatives. A component of the morning session will be time dedicated to conversation with library staff in your region talking with MCLS and Library of Michigan staff about any pressing topics you want addressed. In the afternoon the “MeLCat Symposium” will be a half day opportunity for you to join in a conversation about whatever you want to discuss, ask, or provide feedback about MeLCat and RIDES. The meetings are free to all Michigan library staff and run from 10 AM – 4 PM. Space is limited. Registration is required and done on a first come, first served basis. Lunch is included.
