Following is a list of the excellent and gently used Book Group sets that have been weeded from the CWPL collection due to space considerations. They are available for other libraries to adopt. Most sets have 6-8 books. A few have 9, one may have 5. If a library wants to know a quantity before they decide on a set we will be happy to check and get back with them. MeL Minute - Happy New Year

Hello all, October 1, is the start of the state's new fiscal year and also the official beginning of the new three year contract for core MeL databases. This new year has brought many changes - databases added/dropped/enhanced, the Teachers/M.O.R.E.<http://mel.org/teachers> resources no longer available, and the MeL Databases Help section rewritten, (among other changes with more to come). In case you missed it, a half hour webinar was presented September 30, 2015 covering the MeL New Lineup. It was hosted by David Votta of the Midwest Cooperative for Library Services<http://mcls.org/> (mcls.org) with presentations by representatives from Gale Cengage and Britannica Learning. It is archived and can be found along with the previous MeL Databases training videos and webinars at: http://mcls.org/mel/mel-training-events/ (the presentation slides can be downloaded by clicking on the link in the lower right corner of the viewing screen). Sad News

Nancy Fulkerson long time Reference librarian at the Boyne District Library has died at the age of 65. Nancy had been fighting cancer. After graduating from high school, Nancy began working at the library and stayed for 35 years, retiring in May. Nancy was a part of the library becoming a District Library, automating the catalog, moving the library for a year while the library was expanded, and developing the historical and genealogical sections of the library among other accomplishments. Beginning Workshop Scheduled for May 18-20 in Bellaire, MI

The 2016 Beginning Workshop is schedule for Wednesday, May 18 through Friday, May 20, at Shanty Creek Resorts in Bellaire, MI. Our online registration will open for this after the new year. You can find information about the annual event at www.michigan.gov/beginningworkshop<http://www.michigan.gov/beginningworkshop> Last year's information booklet is still online if you are interested in understanding more about the content of the 3-day event. The Beginning Workshop is required for library staff wanting to obtain Level 3 or a Level 4 Library of Michigan certification. The Beginning Workshop event is geared for those that do not have a masters level degree in library science and have little experience working in libraries. All types of library staff attend the event each year from pages to directors. We usually host between 70-100 participants each year and have a variety of presentations, group activities and table talks.
