For all of you who have been looking for a reason to clean out years of accumulated stuff, and a good place to take it - HERE'S YOUR CHANCE! Are You Discarding Blu-Ray Cases?

Good morning! Just checking -does anyone have any Blu-Ray cases that they are going to discard/have been discarding? We have started a new Blu-Ray collection and are looking to get some Blu-Ray cases for packaging DVD/Blu-Ray combo-packs separately. We'd like the smaller blue cases so our patrons can tell the difference. Let me know, thanks! guns in the library

Do any of you have a procedure in place for when someone enters the library with a gun -(in a non-threatening way, of course!) ? I've been told quite a few years ago to call 911 and have the police come to check permits and such. This certainly doesn't sound like the best, least inflammatory way to handle it, but I don't know of something better. I invite you to see/meet Larry on Tuesday, May 24 at 7pm at the Northville Community Center (adjacent to the Northville District Library). This presentation will highlight the life of Francis Angier: Service: Army Air Corps Unit: 8th Air Force Francis Angier was shot down on the 25th of October, 1944. He was at 30,000 ft. when his plane was shot down resulting in the death of several of his crewmen. Francis did not open his parachute until he was at treetop level because the fuselage of the plane was very close to him and he was afraid that the parachute would become entangled in the wreckage of the plane. Francis was horribly injured in the parachute landing as well as being hit in the face by a civilian with a large piece of wood later on. Francis was taken to Stalag Luft #3 which is where an escape took place that was later made into a movie called “The Great Escape”. He was told by some of the men that were there at the time that the movie was quite accurate in the portrayal of what happened, though Mr. Angier arrived about a month after the escape took place. Lt. Angier also tells of the forced march he endured in order to escape the Russians though they were our allies. He had to suffer the worst of the winter of 1945 and his weight dropped 60 lbs. MIX (Michigan Instruction Exchange) Conference Call for Proposals

MIX (Michigan Instruction Exchange) is looking for your proposal for a brief presentation or Lightening Talk for the MIX Conference scheduled for Friday, August 5 at Macomb Community College, Professional Development Center at Macomb University Center, Clinton Township This year's theme is Information Literacy Skills and High School-College Transition, University/High School Outreach and Collaborations, and Common Core/Information Literacy connections. Do you have a program, project, collaboration, experience or idea that explores and of these themes? If so, please consider submitting a proposal to present at the MIX Conference. We invite academic librarians, public librarians and school media specialists to submit proposals. Presentation opportunities fall into two types: Short Presentations (20 minutes plus 5 minutes Q&A) These are the more traditional conference style presentations, with or without Powerpoints or Prezis, and handouts. Lightning Talks (5 minutes) Lightning talks are strictly limited to 5 minutes and 7 slides. Your goal is to provide an overview that will inspire your audience to learn more about your work. Because of the nature of these very short presentations, all selected Lightning Talk presenters will have an opportunity to discuss their presentation at a "Talk with the Talkers" informal discussion with interested attendees after all Lighting Talks have been completed. You are welcome to bring handouts or other materials to distribute.
