Hi MichLib, Here at Capital Area District Libraries (CADL) in Lansing, we just launched our first StoryWalk(r) at Orlando Park in the nearby town of Haslett! StoryWalk(r) encourages families to enjoy reading and the outdoors by posting a children's book - a page or two at a time - at intervals in a park, hiking trail or other outdoor site. BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP PUBLIC LIBRARY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE POSITION TITLE: Systems Clerical Assistant DEPARTMENT: Systems, reporting to Systems Department Head RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct public service: provides positive, pleasant professional patron support at the public service Computer Help desk, in the Computer Center, and Computer Lab; monitor the proper use of study rooms; demonstrates and provides one-on-one instruction to library visitors in the use of copiers and computers in Computer Center; carry out Computer Center opening and closing procedures; directs library visitors to appropriate public service desks. Indirect public service: Maintains and troubleshoots computer and copier equipment in the Computer Center and Library; and maintain inventory of computer and copier supplies. Policy: assists in the development and implementation of library policies and procedures. REQUIREMENTS: Minimum: High school diploma; knowledge of various computer hardware and software. Able to lift, push, and/or pull at least 50 pounds; able to visually review materials and discern voice and audible tones. Strong attention to detail; dependable and flexible work habits. Desire to serve the public in a positive manner. Desirable: Public library work experience; experience supporting public computer users. HOURS: Part-time, 15 hours weekly. This program looks at the history, ecology and manufacturing of one of our favorite treats. A chocolate tasting is included as part of this educational yet sweet program. Small Claims Court

We are updating our procedures on long overdues - and wonder if anyone out there uses Small Claims Court as a means to getting response from patrons that have many items that are not returned. If so, is that process successful in either getting the items returned or some sort of payment? Also, has there been any negative back lash in regards to taking people to court. All, We will be placing a bulk order for the forthcoming Detroit Free Press book Gordie: The Legend of Mr. Hockey. List price is $15.95. We will probably receive a discount on account our bulk order although I am unsure at this point as to exactly how much that possible discount MAY turn out to be. The State Librarian's Excellence Award recognizes a Michigan Library that best exemplifies excellence in customer service. Roger Mendel will sponsor the $2,000 cash prize awarded to the winning library. The Foundation is pleased to announce this year that the Citation of Excellence Award amounts have increased from $500 to $1,000. Two runners-up will be recognized with a Citation of Excellence.
