Linked Data Users Group forming
by Jan Davidson 15 Aug '17

15 Aug '17

As a result of a successful Linked Data Summit<https://www.mcls.org/training-events/archived-events/linked-data-summit/> held in March 2017, MCLS is facilitating the formation of a multi-state Linked Data for Libraries Users Group. The purpose of the group will be for libraries to discuss the latest developments in Linked Data for libraries, share experiences, explore new products, and raise awareness. A steering committee is being formed, and Andrea Kappler, Cataloging Manager for the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library in Evansville, IN, has agreed to chair the fledgling committee. Andrea is currently seeking additional steering committee members and input on the group's future activities. If you are interested in participating in the users group either as a member or a leader, please fill out this brief survey<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LinkedDataUsersGroup>. An initial virtual meeting of the group will be held on October 4 at 11 am Eastern (10 am Central) to discuss the results of the survey and set a course for action. Details for joining the virtual meeting will be forthcoming. Thank you to Andrea for taking the lead! ********************** Jan Davidson Administrative Assistant, Member Engagement Midwest Collaborative for Library Services Phone: 517-492-3811 / toll-free 800-530-9019 x111 davidsonj(a)mcls.org<mailto:davidsonj@mcls.org> www.mcls.org<http://www.mcls.org/> Check out the MCLS Training Calendar at: mcls.org/calendar<http://mcls.org/calendar> Like us on Facebook for the latest MCLS news: facebook.com/<https://www.facebook.com/mcls.org>mcls.org<https://www.facebook.com/mcls.org> Follow us on Twitter: @mclsorg

Video Game Booklet Question
by Ashlee McClaughry (Roseville Public Library) 15 Aug '17

15 Aug '17

Hello, I'm wondering what other libraries do with the booklets that come with some video games? We currently keep them behind the reference desk and patrons can ask for them to look at in the library. Nobody is really asking for them though. I had thought about just including the booklet in with the game and marking that the item has 2 pieces for our clerks to check in Sirsi. Our Circulation Manager brought up a good point that if the booklet gets lost, how to do we charge the patron for the item since it doesn't feel right to charge a patron for a brand new game over a booklet, which I agree. The other thought is to throw away the booklets since many people just go online to find what they need in the games. Please contact me off list. I can put together all the responses I received for anyone interested. Thanks! Periodicals Service
by Sharon Crotser-Toy 15 Aug '17

15 Aug '17

Greetings, friends! Just wondering: We've been using Popular Subscription Service for all of our magazine subscriptions since they were chiseled in stone and I'm thinking of switching to something more cost effective. Is anyone using Amazon's Magazine Manager, per chance? Are there others you would recommend, instead? Thanks in advance for any feedback! -Sharon -- Sharon Crotser-Toy Director *Watervliet District Library* 333 N.
