Greetings! The call for proposals for the 2018 Loleta Fyan Small and Rural Library Conference is open through Monday, October 16. Submit your session proposal online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RLC2018. The theme of the 2018 conference is Open Doors, Open Minds, celebrating diversity and inclusion in libraries. The conference will be held April 30-May 2, 2018 at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, Michigan. The conference is a specially crafted to reach the informational needs of small and rural library staff throughout Michigan. The three-day event features exhibitors, awards, keynote speakers and an array of sessions geared to libraries serving small and rural communities. The lead presenter of all accepted proposal will receive free registration and one night's lodging at the Grand Traverse Resort! ALA News for September 12, 2017 NEWS FROM THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION ALA, library community support Hurricane Irma response efforts The American Library Association (ALA) and the library community are supporting response and recovery efforts for the libraries damaged by Hurricane Irma. “We extend our thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by Hurricane Irma,” said ALA President Jim Neal. “We are supporting the Florida Library Association and Florida State Library as they work with local libraries dealing with storm-related damage. We are also coordinating with other states and the Caribbean islands whose libraries were damaged by Irma." ALA Members are encouraged to assist their colleagues in Florida and other areas by participating in local fundraising efforts. Health Literacy Month- Oct- ALA Toolkit and Webinar

October is Health Literacy Month ALA’s Public Awareness Office has partnered with the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) on a pilot program to create a Libraries Transform toolkit for showcasing the many ways libraries promote health literacy in their communities. The free toolkit, which is available here<http://www.ilovelibraries.org/librariestransform/health-literacy-toolkit-in…>, includes health literacy data, key messages and talking points sourced through NNLM, as well as nine “Because” statements that speak to some of the varied health literacy issues that libraries address. Each statement comes with downloadable graphics including posters, social media images and more. The toolkit also includes ideas for libraries to use these tools for promoting their own services and programming. NNLM is hosting a webinar on September 14<https://nnlm.gov/class/libraries-transform-health-literacy-toolkit/7708> for library advocates to learn more about the toolkit. Internal Revenue Tax Forms for 2017

Has anyone heard from the Internal Revenue Service re: placing orders for these forms? We had an issue last year and had to order forms late and I am trying to avoid that again this year. I thought we would get something from the IRS, but wasn't sure what or when. I went to the IRS website and there doesn't appear to be anything there re: ordering 2017 forms. I know the forms themselves will not be available until January, but hoped to get an order in now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Cindi L.
