Library presentation
by Alan Naldrett 23 Jan '18

23 Jan '18

Hi! I’m a retired librarian/author and have been fieldinginquiries about my latest book, Michigan’s C. Harold Wills-The Genius Behind the Model T and the WillsSainte Claire Automobile, hence the posting. I’ve put together a presentation on the book. The presentation tellsthe Early Days of the Ford Motor Co. through the eyes of Ford’s “right-hand man”C. Harold Wills. More about C. Harold Wills: -Created the Ford logo -Designed all of Ford’s early models, including Models Athrough T -Developed the steel used in most autos today -Pioneered the planetary transmission -Pioneered back-up lights in autos, as well as otheraccessories -Quit his million-dollar a year job at Ford to start his ownauto company -Created a “Model Town” for his workers This is a presentation geared to library and historicalsociety groups. I have successfully presented at many local venues and would behappy to provide references. I invite anyone reading this that has seen one ofmy programs, Lost Car Companies of Detroit, Lost Towns of Michigan, or theToledo War to mention how it went. I usually get $50 to $100 expense moneybut am happy to give the program free to anyone without a program budget. I am also with the Anchor Bay Author Guild, a new writer's group. We are putting together a list of programs done by local authors and will send it to anyone who is interested in recieving it. Thanks to everyone that has hosted mein the past! 23 Jan '18

Hello, Baldwin Public Library (Birmingham, MI) has six wooden carts free to a good home. They vary slightly in size but are on average 30" long, 14" deep, 35" tall. All are older but still in good condition and definitely functional. Due to their size and weight these are available for pick up only. Please email me off list to claim one or more, responses will be honored in the order they are received. If no one has responded by Wednesday next week (Jan 31) they will be scrapped. A picture of one of the carts is attached, and is also available at the following URL if the attachment does not work for you: https://www.baldwinlib.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/WoodenCart.jpg -- Josh ____________________ Josh Rouan Technical Services Coordinator Baldwin Public Library 300 W. Applications for the ALA LLAMA Mentoring Program are open!
by Reed, Nyama 23 Jan '18

23 Jan '18

Dear Colleagues: The ALA LLAMA (Library Leadership & Management Association) Mentoring Committee is recruiting for both mentors and mentees for our July 2018-June 2019 year. The LLAMA Mentoring Program, http://www.ala.org/llama/llama-mentoring-program, pairs librarians who are currently in leadership positions with librarians who are interested in becoming leaders. To apply to become a mentor, go to: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DL56WCQ To apply to become a mentee, go to: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DVTT3F6 For mentors, it is a chance to pass on your experience and knowledge by working one-on-one with an enthusiastic colleague who is ready to learn and benefit from your experience. For mentees, it is a great opportunity to learn from an accomplished leader how to: Explore your leadership potential;
Demonstrate leadership in your current position;
Acquire the skills, attitudes, and relationships that you will need to move into leadership roles. Participants must be ALA and LLAMA members at the start of the program, and must either attend the Mentor/Mentee orientation at ALA Annual or be able to participate in a virtual orientation at a time to be determined. The deadline to apply to become a mentor or a mentee is January 26, 2018. For more information about the LLAMA Mentoring program, contact Mentoring Committee co-chairs Julene Jones at Julene.Jones(a)uky.edu<mailto:Julene.Jones@uky.edu> or Richard Guajardo at guajardo(a)uh.edu<mailto:guajardo@uh.edu>.
