MCLS is committed to supporting the community engagement efforts of libraries in Indiana and Michigan. We'll have another round of community engagement roundtable discussions in September! MOU with school library

Anyone have an MOU with a school library they can share? I need something to outline lost book procedures, and to allow open communication between the school and the library so that FERPA and Library Privacy Act aren't broken. Interested applicants must submit an Intent to File form by Oct. 31st. The grant program is designed to provide Michigan libraries with the opportunity to develop innovative programs or services that have the potential to develop into sustainable regional or statewide programs, and include strong partnerships between libraries, and/or local community groups or agencies. Eligible applicants include Michigan public, academic, school and special libraries as well as non-profit organizations that serve Michigan libraries. Detailed information on the grant program, including the program timeline, applicant eligibility, Intent to File form, and the application questions are available at www.michigan.gov/lsta<http://www.michigan.gov/lsta>. Applicants may propose a library program or service in any content area appropriate for library services, such as: * To develop an innovative service or program to meet a newly identified community need; * To meet the increased community demand for a service or resource; * To improve or develop new services to target populations, such as people from diverse geographic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds; individuals with disabilities; and individuals with limited functional literacy, limited English proficiency or limited information literacy skills. The grant period will be from one to three years and funding will be for $50,000 to $225,000 per year up to a possible total of $500,000 over three years. Grant selection is competitive. This Saturday at the Library of Michigan. Tracking the Hopper: Biographical Research at the Library of Michigan Starting with nothing more than a 1971 footnote and a painting, this class is designed to demonstrate how to research 20th & 21st century individuals at the Library of Michigan. We will trace two families from Russia in the early 20th century to the United States, through their lives, careers, and homes. Using paper and digital sources the class will walk participants through trusted resources and public records. This class is intended for middle school, high school and adult students interested in exploring the history of people in the state of Michigan.
