Community Clothing Closet @ DPL Edison Branch - Seeking Donations

Hi, library land! Our branch is planning a Community Clothing Closet (where patrons can come and take a pre-determined number of clothing items free of charge) in 2025. Putting the call out for donations early in order to get those "new year, new me" closet purgers! If your organization or community is interested in having a drop box for donations, please let me know! We are looking for clean, gently used adult clothing items (no undergarments, please) of all sizes. We will take care of pick up. This is a great way to promote clothing sustainability and community support. Thanks all! Personal Days Question

Good Morning, Clare, Our current Personal Days Policy states that "Three (3) personal days are given to each full-time employee per calendar year after completion of one year of employment.Personal days do not accrue.No compensation is given for unused personal days at termination, retirement, resignation or death.Employees electing to use personal leave must notify the library in advance. Personal leave must be used as whole days in eight-hour blocks." We have an employee that is RETIRING on January 9th, and per this policy will be able to take his three personal days for 2025 in January before he retires. I am re-writing this policy for our new policy manual and would like to state something to the effect that you can't be a jerk about it... What is FAIR when it comes to personal days? The Library & Chamber of Commerce

Hi everyone, My Chamber of Commerce recently approached me to ask how we can better support each other's organizations and they are looking for ideas for how we can work together. We already have a booth for our Friends Book Sale during their summer event and we are involved in the other community events that the Chamber holds, but it seems like they are looking for more collaboration outside of these community events. So my question- How does your library work with your local Chamber of Commerce? Any ideas, recommendations, and details are appreciated. I am definitely open to partnering with them, I just want to make sure that the partnership is beneficial to both organizations. Circulating Science Kits

Good afternoon, My library may soon apply for a circulating science kits grant, and I was wondering if any libraries out there have science kits that your patrons can check out. If you do, could you please send me information about your kits such as what you have included in each one, how well they seem to circulate, and if your patrons have requested other science kits you don't currently have at the library? 2025 Marks the 50th Anniversary of the Sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald

The story of the ship and its crew is still well known to those living in Michigan, thanks in large part to the efforts of author and maritime historian Fred Stonehouse. Fred's book "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is regarded to be "the" source of information on the topic. (Book link available below.)
