The program is designed for public librarians to model early literacy skill development directly to families and engage in outreach to early childhood centers, Great Start & Head Start classrooms, and daycares throughout their community. The Library of Michigan is looking for public libraries which would like to have the author and illustrator visit on March 19-22, 2018. Libraries must be able to coordinate the event with a local early childhood center, daycare, Great State, Head Start, preschool or kindergarten class(es). If you would like your public library to be considered as a host, please complete the Ready to Read Michigan Tour Visit 2018<http://links.govdelivery.com:80/track?type=click&enid=ZWFzPTEmbWFpbGluZ2lkP…> form by December 8, 2018. We will select event locations based on the author & illustrator's schedule, the location of the library, and the library's ability to secure a community partner to bring in an audience or plan to host the visit at a local early childhood center. We will try to reach as many areas of the state as possible with up to 10 visits. The Library of Michigan will make scheduling arrangements with the author and illustrator to pay their honorarium. Funding for Ready to Read Michigan is provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, with additional support provided by Consumers Energy and the Library of Michigan Foundation.

All, As you are probably aware, we have a couple of publishing partners out there who are helping us spread the word when it comes to all the great things concerning the Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) program. As part of this relationship, Michigan libraries also get the opportunity to purchase their books and dvd's at a discount. A win-win! Let's get your orders to me by no later than close of TLN business on Friday, December 8, please. Having said that, below is a list of the 11 items we are offering in terms of bulk order opportunities from these two publishers. I am also including three other titles that were suggested by libraries around the state. Finally, there is a 15th title which I just saw come across my radar screen that sounded interesting, and not that easy to get. So I added it to the mix, too. Digital Adventure: 360 Interactive Experience from Detroit Public Television Detroit Public TV - PBS will be hosting a 3 different virtual field trips that teachers can attend with their classes in December! These will be done via OVEE (Online Video Engagement Experience). December 12 at 1pm - Polk Penguin Conservation Center at the Detroit Zoo December 13 at 1pm - Raptors at the Leslie Science & Nature Center December 14 at 1pm - Organization for Bat Conservation Classes will be able to explore 360 video from the habitats at each location. These videos will be interactive that include hot spots, which incorporate additional learning material and even a digital badge redemption code! Following the explore time, classes will be able to interact with experts from each location via a live chat. The entire experience will be approximately an hour. Lesson plans (standards aligned) and preview material will be sent to everyone registered starting on December 6th. The lesson plans are geared to grades 6 - 12, but elementary students will LOVE this experience as well. This is also a cross-curricular event - all subject areas are welcome to attend. The focus is Climate and Culture with our winged creature friends. These events are free, but registration is required.
