by Erin Schmandt 04 Jun '19

04 Jun '19

I would like to welcome Kate Van Auken as the next Director of the White Pine Library Cooperative. Kate has been the director of the Rawson Memorial Library in Cass City for the last seventeen years and served as a Library Board member for two years previous to that. She has her Master's degree in Library & Information Science from Wayne State University. She enjoys library advocacy and working to let the community decide what they want to have available. She is a strong proponent of community involvement. Kate, as director of Rawson, has been a member of White Pine for those seventeen years, serving as Board President for part of that time. She looks forward to working with the Board to grow White Pine and we are very excited to have her step into this leadership position. Kate will start at the White Pine offices in mid-July to spend some time learning with outgoing director Bryon Sitler before he retires at the end of the month. Supervised Visits
by Marla Drury 03 Jun '19

03 Jun '19

Hi all, Our library has been seeing a big increase in the number of supervised visits we've been getting. While we're happy to provide space for the families to be able to see each other, it is beginning to be a burden to staff and stressful for our other patrons. We've been having several patron complaints while the visits are occurring, and our children's area is often left in shambles because they don't clean up when they go. Does any library have a specific policy regarding supervised visits? Do you have any recommendations on how we can discuss behavioral issues with this group? It's already a delicate situation for the parents and we don't want to add more stress, but we also need to respect the other patrons we have during these times. Thanks! Signature

Does your library have book club kits for checkout?
by Dillon Geshel 03 Jun '19

03 Jun '19

Hello! I am looking for information from libraries who have started a book club kit for checkout program. We are starting a book club kit program, and are looking for recommendations on packaging the kits for checkout. Where did you purchase your totes or other bags from? How are the kits labeled, and where did you purchase that material from? Any details and/or photos would be much appreciated! :) Thank you, Dillon -- Dillon Geshel Library Director Portage Lake District Library 58 Huron Street, Houghton MI (906)-482-4570 x2 Visit our website at www.pldl.org Like our FB page at facebook.com/pldl.org *The Mission of the Portage Lake District Library is to inspire our diverse community to discover, imagine and connect.
