Hello , I am a librarian at Canton Public Library and also a member of of the Michigan Alliance for Cultural Accessibility<https://www.miculturalaccess.org/professional-development> <https://www.miculturalaccess.org/professional-development> (MACA). Last week MACA featured speaker Alayna Lail from the Division on Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing, (DODDBHH) in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights who presented on this very topic! The quick response is that any ASL interpreter offered as accommodation must be a qualified ASL interpreter<https://adata.org/factsheet/sign-language-interpreters> according to ADA Title III requirements. We had asked about having a staff member who is fluent or semi-fluent provide translation and while Alayna mentioned that some access is better than no access, that this did not equate to compliance under ADA, I highly recommend checking out the provided links or contacting DODDBHH directly with specific questions as they are marvelous and can help connect you with resources to meet patron needs and requests. Drop in gaming anti-theft procedures?

SAM.gov Expiration & For-Profit Companies

Hello all, Just received my first "spam" email from a for-profit business trying to convince me to click their link and use their service to renew our SAM.gov account, for the low, low price of $349. SAM.gov accounts expire yearly, BUT are completely free to renew and it takes only about 10 minutes (and three confirmation code verifications) to submit your renewal through SAM.gov. Especially if you or someone in your organization is new in that role or to SAM.gov this year, please forward this to them before they commit to sharing that information, including the library's banking information, to a for-profit company and paying for the privilege. This company in particular is USAFilingGuide.com and the email was titled "Your SAM Registration is Expiring - ALBION DISTRICT LIBRARY." The email is plain text, looks very much like an automated notification email, and includes our CAGE code, and SAM UEI. Just a heads up. Best wishes, folks! Question re: integrated DVD collections

Greetings fellow library folk! Recently we had a feature DVD appear in the wrong collection on our shelf, as it is a French language film and ought to go to our world language DVD section. It was then lamented that the item's circ count was likely to go down, as materials in our world language collection (with the exception of MeL) have a notable lower circ stat. So we started brainstorming on the access services level as to what could be done to draw more attention to these items. The thought came up several times to integrate the world language DVD section with corresponding feature, non-feature, and TV series collections, while retaining the language label (the line of thought here being that patrons are not necessarily searching for materials on account of the language alone). Before presenting this suggested course of action to the collection manager, we wanted to send feelers out as to whether other libraries had already done such an integration: did you see an increase in circ counts for world language materials? Did patrons complain about the integration? Did shelving staff have a difficult time with it? Do you wish you could hit the rhetorical 'undo' button on this? We want to know! To spare folks a long email chain, direct messages are most appreciated - and if anyone is interested, I will collate the responses and share them. Lastly, if this is a topic that has been deliberated upon before, it would be immensely appreciated if someone would be able to forward that chain for our edification.
