Hello all, We've had a Library of Things here for five years now. I have spent the three years that I have been here tweaking the policy with our director as situations have dictated and find myself once again at a crossroads of what to do. We have a continuing issue of patrons returning items from the collection late. Our current policy dictates that a patron may lose their privilege to check out items from the LoT once they have been late three times. I give grace the first time they are late, so they really get four chances before we consider removing their privileges. We do not specify within what timeframe those three late occurrences happen. So, as an example, we could have a patron that was late three times in 2022 and has been a model patron since then, but if they are late again this month they would lose their privilege per policy. Also, as a fine free library we really do not want to add a monetary penalty to the policy. We do send the patron to collections for the value of the item when it has been missing for a certain amount of time. In extreme cases, when the collections action has not produced the item we do make police reports. Any thoughts out there as to how to modify the policy to make the repercussions more apparent? DPL Repair Cafes starting up again for the fall

Now that the branch is open on Saturdays again, the DPL Repair Cafe is starting up. We will meet from 11-1, usually on the second Saturday of the month. Our first session this season is coming up this Saturday, 9/13. It has been great to see the number of local libraries that have teamed up with the other Detroit Repair Cafe. Hosting a Scholastic book fair info

I had several requests to share my findings about hosting a Scholastic Book Fair at the library. Here is the Scholastic customer service number: 888-412-9124. I spoke with the Rep from Scholastic, and here are a few important details: They will send 5 cases with items K-8 plus table items to fill 6 tables. They have premade advertising for social media and premade posters. Profits over $3800 earn 50% scholastic dollars, under $3800 40%. These dollars do not expire. If you choose a cash option, the % is significantly less (check if this is an option at your library; it was not for ours). They provide a cash register; we would need to provide start-up $ for change. The register takes credit cards, also. All tax is rolled into the price of the books, and Scholastic takes care of the tax issues. The fair would last 1 week. We have no liability for theft. I hope this helps. Since we are considering doing this in the summer, we feel we will not hurt the school's profits when they host their fairs. Best removable labels for MeL?

Good morning, friends! I am hoping to keep staff happy by finding removable labels for MeL that are ACTUALLY removable. For years we have used Avery Removable ID Labels and they were great but for the last year or so they have been increasingly hard to remove. I would love to stick with the same size. Bloomfield Township Public Library is a Class 5 Library, with a service population of 44,253 people and has a $10.9 million annual operating budget. POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Assistant DEPARTMENT: Facility Services, reporting to Department Head HOURS: Part-time, 20 hours weekly, flexible schedule required for daytime, afternoon/evening, and weekend shifts. CSLP Committee Applications are now open for volunteers

Consider joining a CSLP committee! Collaborative Summer Library Program's committees are the engine that keeps CSLP moving forward, and vibrant committees lead to a vibrant CSLP. That is why we invite all member library staff members to join a committee annually. Only through your input can we continue to improve. Sign-ups for 2026 CSLP Committees are open until October 15. While the duties vary, committee obligations generally run for one calendar year. All committee work is done virtually, either through email, or through phone or online meetings. Attending the CSLP Annual Meeting is not required. Each committee has different size and participation criteria. From Miracle Pup to Mom: Trumpet the Wolf’s Journey with Author Leokadia George
