Magnifier machine free for pickup
by Janelle Martin 07 Oct '19

07 Oct '19

Hello, We have a Panasonic Freedom Machine that has not been used in a few years and is taking up precious space. It is used to view enlarged versions of newspaper, magazines and other print material. It has two parts to it; the tv monitor and the viewing platform. It is free to the first library willing to pick it up. I wanted to see if anyone was interested in it before we try to recycle it. See the pictures below. The table and stool are not included. 😀 Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Janelle Janelle Martin Head of Fiction Marguerite deAngeli Library Lapeer District Library 921 W. The festival is completely FREE and open to students in grades 3-5, their families, and their teachers. We feature an author visit and fun writing breakout sessions led by our pre-service education students, while parents and teachers learn literacy strategies. We also have a writing contest, and present awards and prizes (Barnes & Noble gift certificates) at the festival. - 2019 Writing Contest deadline: *October 11* - 2019 Festival: *November 9* (Registration opens October 14) More info at: https://library.umd.umich.edu/yaf/ *Here's how you can help: * (1) Post the flyer <https://drive.google.com/open?id=14iivEYeVKjgsyWHk5F53RAu_mVRAAy_Q> or put it into the hands of someone who should have it. (2) Send out the info in a newsletter or share it on your blog. Have a social media feed? Share our Facebook event <https://www.facebook.com/events/374860506530756/> or give the posts in the Mardigian Library's social media content about the YAF a boost. (3) Encourage kids to read the featured book this summer, before they come to the festival this fall. It is Jean Alicia Elster's *The Colored Car*. There are lots of copies available through MeLCat <http://search.mel.org/iii/encore/record/C__Rb25978764>! (4) Do you have some young writers in your library or run any writing programming? Presenter Recommendation: Amanda Bulgarelli of Positive Approach to Care
by Brandi Tambasco 07 Oct '19

07 Oct '19

This past weekend, the Howell Carnegie District Library had the second of 2 seminars on dementia awareness led by Amanda Bulgarelli of Positive Approach to Care <https://teepasnow.com/>. Both seminars were well attended, with Amanda speaking about "Normal Aging vs. Not-Normal Aging" at the first one in September, and "What is Dementia?" at the second. The audience feedback was terrific for both and the staff, who sat in for each program, were impressed too. She had the audience voluntarily interacting: responding to questions, partaking in short role-play scenarios, and even singing along to a mnemonic device for how to treat people with dementia. Amanda was an excellent speaker, gave relevant and important information related to dementia, and was so easy to work with--no-hassle booking, great communication, and reasonable presenter fee. She also has other dementia-related presentations, so she's more than likely got a program appropriate for any library. We'd like to give a shout-out to TLN, since we discovered Amanda at the TLN's Adult Services Presenters Showcase last December. If you're interested in having Amanda Bulgarelli present at your library, she can be reached at amandab(a)teepasnow.com.
