The Northville District Library seeks an enthusiastic and service-oriented Librarian for a full-time position, as follows: *Position: Librarian, Systems and Cataloging * 40 Hours per week, including one regular weekday evening, every third Saturday, and occasional Sundays. Reports to the Head of Technical Services. *Salary:* $55,744.00 - $69,180.80 based upon prior work experience Benefits: Health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), MERS defined benefit retirement, life and disability insurance, vacation and sick leave, personal business days and holidays. This is a Union position. *Duties: * • Manages all aspects of the Library’s integrated library system, including data migration, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades. • Trains staff in all departments on appropriate use of all modules of the ILS and maintains up-to-date training documentation for use by both staff and patrons. • Advises and makes recommendations on best practices regarding the ILS to Administration. • Performs both original and copy cataloging of library materials using MARC format, Library of Congress subject headings, Dewey Decimal classification, and other industry standards. • Assists with the physical processing of library materials as needed. • Provides reference, instructional, and reader’s advisory services for patrons of all ages on the public reference desks. • Participates in continuing education opportunities, especially those related to systems and technical services. • Provides backup IT support as needed. • Works on special projects. • Communicates effectively with Library staff and patrons. *Required Qualifications: * • MLS from an ALA accredited college or university. • Possess a Level I Permanent Professional Certificate from the Library of Michigan. • Experience administering integrated library systems, especially TLC’s CARL system and ByWater Solutions’ Aspen and Koha products. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Excellent technology skills. • Experience cataloging all manner of library materials for all age groups. • Experience writing instructional documentation. • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public. • Critical thinking skills. • Strong attention to detail. • Strong public service orientation. *Preferred Qualifications: * • Collection development experience. • Basic web development skills, HTML. • Public Library experience. *Deadline for application: Friday, February 7, 2025 * *Submit Application, Cover Letter, and Resume to: * Maureen Simari, Head of Technical Services Northville District Library 212 West Cady Street Northville, Michigan 48167-1560 msimari(a)northvillelibrary.org https://northvillelibrary.org/?page_id=22288 Thanks, M. -- Maria Williams Assistant Director Northville District Library 212 W. The Otsego District Library has the following items for sale for the listed prices, OBO. 7 jungle animal cardboard cutouts (Lion not shown in picture but comes with set) Whole set is $200 OBO Garfield w 3 friends Fathead standups – Garfield has two small spots where color ripped off (hand/background) but otherwise decent. Could easily repair by printing same color and gluing piece on. Garfield, Arlene, John, and Odie. Would like to keep whole family together but will consider selling solo characters if whole set does not sell. All 4 characters together for $250 OBO 6 shelf Atlas stand. Employee Improvement Plans, Employee Conduct Policies

Hello, We have a long list of policies that we need to create or update, but most urgently I'm needing to develop an employee conduct policy and some form of an employee improvement plan or disciplinary system. The immediate need is to address two staff members who are extremely harsh and disrespectful in interacting with their colleagues, often acting as if they are an authority figure through intimidation (despite the fact that they are peers, but then denying and deflecting when coached on how this is not an appropriate or helpful dynamic). I would like to have a broader policy that covers a wide variety of staff conduct expectations, so if anyone has a policy or a coaching/accountability process they're willing to share, I'd very much appreciate it! Live video question

The past couple of years, we've had butterflies in the library, displayed from caterpillar to release. This year, we'd like to set up a live camera feed, something we could display on our website, or provide links to, so people can check on them any time. I'm hoping to get some recommendations for a camera to purchase, that would let us do this. There are so many different kinds of cameras out there to sort through! I am, of course, trying not to break the bank, and I'd prefer something that doesn't transmit audio (in either direction). Through this interactive presentation, Compassion and Choices members will detail the medical landscape in Michigan today, explain advanced directives and why everyone should complete theirs, review dementia’s nuances and explain medical-aid-in-dying. Presenters will guide participants through slightly humorous, thoughtful interactive questions and show a brief movie clip. Our Michigan Action Team members are trained to present clear, accurate information about end-of-life autonomy and equally important, clarify any preconceived misconceptions. We foster a comfortable atmosphere that promotes open dialogue for the audience. Relevant handouts are available as well as the opportunity to chat with our presenters.
