Macmillan Embargo and Consortia: Advantage Copies Will Be Available For Purchase Through OverDrive/B&T

Good Morning, Recently there has been a great deal of discussion in the library world concerning the soon to be implemented (November 1) by Macmillan Publishing Company "one copy only for purchase initially; additional copies not available for purchase until eight weeks later" eBook policy. [ http://www.ala.org/news/press-releases/2019/09/ala-launches-national-campai… | http://www.ala.org/news/press-releases/2019/09/ala-launches-national-campai… ] The first question we had was, "what about libraries that are part of a purchasing cooperative but also have the ability to purchase additional titles/copies for use by their own patrons?" Perhaps in response, or maybe because Macmillan lacked a complete understanding as to how the majority of public libraries offer access to digital materials, ie via what OverDrive calls a consortia, there is this: [ http://www.readersfirst.org/news/2019/9/26/a-small-change-for-consortia-in-… | http://www.readersfirst.org/news/2019/9/26/a-small-change-for-consortia-in-… ] OverDrive has yet to make an official announcement concerning the above, although this information was conveyed to me during my September call with OverDrive. You should probably expect this to also mean there will be a big push from OverDrive to sign up additional libraries for OverDrive Advantage. Look for some sort of official announcement from OverDrive in another week or so, as the eight week Macmillan embargo, terms of which are still subject to change, is scheduled to go into effect on November 1, 2019. OverDrive's Daiva Madjar will be at MLA if you have additional questions concerning the Macmillan embargo, or anything else OverDrive related. Storytime & yoga

Hello everyone, Along with performing storytimes with my puppet Lateasha in the Detroit metro area, I am also a certified yoga teacher. I live in Dearborn, however I travel around the Detroit metro area to do classes. If you would like me to do a one hour yoga session or 45 minute yoga session at your library for your patrons, please let me know. I am available during the week anytime after 4:30 PM, and Saturday between 9:00am-12:30pm for classes. Summer Library Program Manuals are out!

CSLP's 2020 "Imagine Your Story"<https://www.cslpreads.org/> manuals are now available online for member libraries to access. Membership is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and includes all the public libraries here in Michigan. All public library directors received an email this morning (via mi(a)countingopininons.com) on how to access the online manuals, so please see your director for details on accessing the manual. Later this week physical mailings with the directions on how to access your manual and the 2020 Catalog (available online) will also go out to all public libraries. Reminder: please designate 1 staff person to access the manual code for your building. Once you have the code, you can download the manual to your library network drive, save to a thumb drive, and/or print to share with staff. Manuals can be downloaded in sections or as a full manual all at once. Art work is in the process of being made into "Zip Collections." This should be in the next 24 hours. (These are the collections of images that make it easier for libraries to download the art in batches). Please note the wonderful new layout! A *Part-time Librarian Substitute *will be trained by the Department Heads and fellow staff for public service at the reference desks. Magnifier machine free for pickup

Hello, We have a Panasonic Freedom Machine that has not been used in a few years and is taking up precious space. It is used to view enlarged versions of newspaper, magazines and other print material. It has two parts to it; the tv monitor and the viewing platform. It is free to the first library willing to pick it up. I wanted to see if anyone was interested in it before we try to recycle it. See the pictures below.
