Participate in National Library Legislative Week — May 4 through May 8 — from home While the in-person National Library Legislative Day (NLLD) 2020 was canceled, ALA is hosting a week's worth of free advocacy training and activities for library advocates of all kinds. Typically, NLLD has a registration cost and specialized trainings, like the Congressional Management Foundation webinar, are available to ALA members only. During this critical moment, we are opening access to everyone. Our vision is that library advocates will have the opportunity to hear from each other, to train virtually, and to continue creating connections and relationships with decision makers at every level of government. This is an unsettling time, but here's the truth: advocacy is more important now than ever before. This week of training aims to prepare us to take the leap forward, to expand our skillsets, and to pioneer new forms of digital outreach. Knowing we are all balancing screen time with multiple responsibilities at home, the week is a "design your own path" program based on your preference and availability. Tune in every day between May 4 and May 8 for live afternoon sessions and complete advocacy actions when you can. All trainings are free and recordings will be available through May 31. Happy Monday all, We've added some links under Additional Resources on the "Michigan Public Libraries : Re-opening Considerations after Closures" document at https://micoops.info/ Check it out now to link to reopening plans from Colorado, Georgia and New Mexico, view the IMLS/CDC webinar on mitigating COVID-19 when circulating materials, and review the Guidance for Governors from Johns Hopkins. The MCDA will continue to update the document on a regular basis to provide helpful resources and examples of what others are doing as we move forward with reopening our libraries and resuming services to our patrons. Suggestions for additional resources to include are welcomed. Just email your Cooperative director with the information and we will get that included in the list. Virtual Event Pollinator’s Gardens with Bees in the D

Greetings! If you are going to do, or would like to add to, your virtual programming please consider Bees in the D. Royal Oak Public Library hosted Bees in the D Pollinator’s Gardens this week and it was very entertaining, informative and much fun! The interest was high, over 100 registered with 67 watching, and the presenter Brian Peterson-Roest was great! We used Zoom, which Bees in the D provided. The event went smooth, with no glitches! I think your patrons would enjoy Pollinator’s Gardens and with Bees in the D being a non-profit, their fee ($300) goes to supporting their great cause.
