Curbside or patron pick up apps or software

Hi everyone! I am interested in hearing about curbside software and apps that libraries are using now to help make curbside more efficient for both patrons and staff. Some I have noticed are Capira, SimplyBookMe, Libro, etc. that are being used by libraries. Can folks respond with thoughts about how these are working? I'm wondering about estimates for pricing and how their pricing models work such as by cardholders or something else? Are they working for you? Are they the greatest thing since sliced bread or a pain? Are any of you collaborating on implementing these? Other thoughts are also welcome about these sorts of tools. Greetings! Two new Executive Orders were released last evening, and a DHHS Emergency Order was released this morning. Here is, briefly, what these mean for Michigan's Public Libraries: EO 2020-160<https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/MIEOG/2020/07/29/file_attachmen…>, Amended Safe Start Order - Rescission of Executive Orders 2020-110, 2020-115, 2020-120, 2020-133, and 2020-143. Combines and amends earlier EOs that pertained only to particular regions. Reinstates 10 person (from different households) limit across the state for indoor social gatherings or organized events. Provides a 100 person (from different households) limit on outdoor gatherings for regions 1-5, &7. Regions 6 & 8 have a 250 person limit for outdoor gatherings of people from different households. Provides some new emphasis on requiring remote work when an employee is able to accomplish their work remotely. Limits certain establishments across the state with liquor licenses to outside or curbside service only. EO 2020-161<https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/MIEOG/2020/07/29/file_attachmen…>, Safeguards to protect Michigan's workers from COVID-19 - Rescission of Executive Order 2020-145. Provides workplace requirements and guidelines for workplace safety. Updated to add guidance and requirements for Casinos. DHHS Emergency Order<DHHS%20Emergency%20Order%20https:/www.michigan.gov/documents/coronavirus/MD…> Regarding EO 2020-153, EO 2020-160, and EO 2020-161 - Provides support and enforcement mechanism for EOs, including the authorization for police to enforce, including authorization to bar entrance into a violating business, and, penalties including loss of license or fine. What does this mean for libraries? The biggest takeaways are: These EOs and their amendments are specifically aimed at limiting people from different households from congregating. In other words, keeping people separated. In considering adjustments to be made, libraries should consider this intent. Libraries should review work arrangements and schedules with an eye towards assigning remote work where possible. The remote work requirement in section 1 of EO 2020-160 This requirement is reiterated in EO 2020-161, section (1)(t) ("Promote remote work to the fullest extent possible."). Section 6(k) of 2020-161 requires that libraries and retail establishments "limit staffing to the minimum number necessary to operate." This has always been a requirement, but the rearrangement of the language in EO 2020-160 has bumped it up to section 1, so it bears some renewed consideration considering the intent of the modifications made in EO 2020-160. No in-person public board meetings ( a board meeting is an "organized event" (see section 7(a)(3) of EO 2020-160). A 10 person meeting capacity is not enough to comply with Open Meetings Act). If you are planning on doing outreach for K-12 students, virtually or otherwise, consider adding some of our favorite MeL resources to your lineup. Go-to resources for Elementary outreach: K-3: PebbleGo helps teach students early research skills, while using a child-friendly interface that is great for emerging readers. The Social Studies module aligns with nearly all elements of the Michigan K-2 Academic Standards, and the Animals module supports many aspects of the K-2 Science curriculum. K-5: Explora for Elementary is an easy to use database that allows to students to research most subjects of interest. Through this eResource, students have access to thousands of articles from publications such as Ranger Rick, Cricket, Sports Illustrated Kids, Ladybug, Dynamath, Stone Soup, and Zoobooks. Databases we love for Middle School and High School outreach: Explora for Middle School and Explora for High School are excellent research databases for a wide range of subjects. We love how easy it is to teach students to refine results with their user-friendly sidebar. Teachers and students love the lexile feature that allows you to eliminate articles that may be overly complex or too easy. Gale In Context: Opposing Viewpoints offers different perspectives on current topics of interest. We love the Topic Finder tool under the Advance Search setting and the easy to use citation tool available with most articles. Students love being able to browse all of the offered topics, which makes selecting and researching a topic easier. Teachers love how easy it is for their students to use the database and the up-to-date information that is offered. My favorite college prep resources for High School outreach: Learning Express Library offers test preparation for AP exams, ACT exams, SAT exams and more. This can also be used to prepare for the High School equivalency exam. In addition to exam preparation, Learning Express Library offers skill building for an array of subjects including Math, Science, Language Arts, and Technology. Teachers and students alike appreciate this resource. Bonus resources: Novelist K-8 Plus & Novelist Plus is a teacher favorite that we like to present to grades 4-12. The Read-alike function is very helpful for teachers who cannot find new books for their super readers. The Lexile function is helpful for teachers who cannot find High/Low books for their struggling readers. K-12: Britannica School: With Elementary, Middle, and High School options, this simplistic database is perfect for beginning researchers of all ages, especially those who need easy-to-find subjects. Built-in trivia, or "fundamentals" make this appealing to elementary students. The toolkit workbooks include information and activities related to bias, microaggressions, allyship and cross-cultural communication, as well as a workbook focused on learning about Native American and Alaska Native people and communities. While the libraries remain closed to the public, beginning August 1, 2020 customers can pick up reserved items at the Main Library (5201 Woodward/ N of Warren).
