Collaborative Summer Library Program The Library of Michigan has purchased Michigan's public libraries online access to the 2022 Collaborative Summer Library Program's "Oceans of Possibilities" Manual. This manual contains all the programming resources, graphics, and book lists for the upcoming summer. I'm happy to share that CSLP has also updated their website and the manual is easier than ever to navigate. To open & download the manual, you will need the access code - the access code for 2022 has been sent to all public library directors in Michigan via LM's LibPass portal on 9/27/21, having come to their inbox from "Mi(a)countingopinions.com<mailto:Mi@countingopinions.com>." If your director did not receive and forward the access code to you, please reach out to them directly for the code or for them to contact me. To open & download the manual from the CSLP website (www.cslpreads.org<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cslpre…>) hover over the "Manual Downloads" tab, located on the menu bar. From the drop-down menu, select 2022 Oceans of Possibilities. You will be prompted to enter your access code. Please do not share your code outside of your library or post it in a publicly accessible location. CSLP's Store is now open<https://shop.cslpreads.org/> and the 2022 Oceans of Possibilities Catalog<https://shop.cslpreads.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/48794-cslp-product-ca…> is also available online. CSLP's partnership with Stick Together(r) will be continuing for 2022, too, so look for new art to be released soon. Speaking of the symposium, I am helping to build a presentation on programming ideas for 2022's Oceans of Possibilities. If you have any great ideas you'd like to share (early childhood, school-age, tweens/teens, or adult) please feel free to drop the idea(s) in this form: https://forms.gle/4Dbsej4fWrkaVCM69. This project is made possible by grant funds from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administered by the State of Michigan through the Library of Michigan. Ready to Read Michigan presents: Storytimes for Everyone! A 3 Session Series with Pamela Martin-Diaz<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flibraryof…> Tuesdays, November 9th, 16th, and 23rd, 2021 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM ET Early literacy is the base upon which a child who reads with understanding is built. The goal of this 3-part workshop is to teach storytime staff how to explain, model and encourage caregivers to help their children develop the early literacy skills needed to learn how to read. Participants will become familiar with seminal research on early literacy, how to explain its importance to caregivers while presenting fun, interactive storytimes. This will also cover the 5 practices of Every Child Ready to Read, the basis of Ready to Read Michigan. This project is made possible by grant funds from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administered by the State of Michigan through the Library of Michigan. >From Diversity to Inclusion: How to Audit Your Collection and Why Wednesday, December 15, 2021 11:00 AM - Noon ET No need to register if you are unable to attend this session live, a recording will be shared via email and posted on our website. Join Kymberlee Powe, Children and YA Consultant for the Connecticut State Library Division of Library Development, as she dives into the makeup of the publishing industry. You will learn how to identify the difference between a diverse collection and an inclusive one and walk through the logistics of performing a diversity audit of your collection. The examples and resources provided in this session will focus on youth collections; however, the methodology of performing a diversity audit, and the reasons to do so, are universal to all collections. This presentation is brought to you by the Connecticut State Library, in collaboration with the Indiana State Library, the Library of Michigan, and the State Library of Ohio, so come and be prepared to exchange ideas with library staff from across our three states. Michigan library staff may register here: https://libraryofmichigan.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/libraryofmichigan/even…<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flibraryof…>. Ready to Read Michigan Presents: Reimaging School Readiness<https://libraryofmichigan.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/libraryofmichigan/even…> January 20th and 27th, 2022 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM ET Please plan to join us live for this 2-part series, offered by the Bay Area Discovery Museum, created to introduce librarians to the research, practical implications, and resources offered in their Reimagining School Readiness toolkit. Research shows that beliefs about intelligence and ability impact one's performance and response to failure. Learn more about what research says, how to examine and change your own mindset, and what you can do to help support children's growth mindset and persistence through challenge. Do you wonder what research really says about how to support school readiness? Based on a comprehensive review of cognitive and developmental psychology, the key findings in Reimagining School Readiness aim to surface the skills and conditions that matter most for a child's success in school and life, and to guide educators and others (including families) in designing learning experiences and environments to support this development. Attendees will gain insights into the current research behind the skills and conditions that matter most for a child's success in school and life. The workshop will include an overview of BADM's Reimagining School Readiness Toolkit that library staff can use to supplement or create quality school readiness programming. Instructor: Michelle Wessman Randall, PhD, Head of Evaluation at the Bay Area Discovery Museum (BADM) and BADM staff. This project is made possible by grant funds from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administered by the State of Michigan through the Library of Michigan. by White, Shannon (MDE) 08 Oct '21

08 Oct '21

There is one seat left for this session on October 28. From: White, Shannon (MDE) Sent: Wednesday, September 15, 2021 2:16 PM To: michlib-l(a)mcls.org Subject: Mental Health First Aid Adults Training for Library Staff October 28 Mental Health First Aid Adults Training for Library Staff October 28 The Library of Michigan is offering a Mental Health First Aid for Adults session open to staff from any library type on October 28, 2021. This is our sixth offering of the Mental Health First Aid classes taught by MSU Extension staff. There is no limit on the number of staff per library. Like CPR, Mental Health First Aid prepares participants to interact with a person in crisis and connect the person with help. First Aiders do not take on the role of professionals they do not diagnose or provide any counseling or therapy. Instead, the program offers concrete tools and answers key questions, like what do I do? and where can someone find help? Certified Mental Health First Aid instructors provide a list of community healthcare providers and national resources, support groups, and online tools for mental health and addictions treatment and support. All trainees receive a program manual to compliment the course material. The Mental Health First Aid training includes a 2-hour self-paced course, followed by a 5.5 hour instructor led training. Participants who do not complete the self-paced portion or attend the full instructor led day will not be eligible to receive a certificate of completion. Because seating is limited and a specialized certification is issued, you will need to agree to a number of stipulations and complete the MSU Extension registration here. Please review the details on the registration site before completing your registration. Participants who do not complete the self-paced portion, attend the full instructor led day, or do not complete the post-work and evaluation will not be eligible to receive a certificate of completion. Cancellations must be received at least three business days prior to the class. Participants who register for a training and fail to cancel at least three business days prior and no-show will be charged a $50 cancellation fee. Register here: https://events.anr.msu.edu/MHFA_Librarians_October/ This program is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. If you have any questions please let me know. sdw Shannon White Library Development Manager Library of Michigan, 702 W.
