Ready to Read Michigan Presents: A Joyous Way to Learn! Librarians leave the session inspired to share a new repertoire of songs and playful literacy activities with the children they care for. When we define our teaching as helping children learn, we not only provide joyous challenges for the children. Check Out the 2021 Graphic Novels Reading Lists Bold, bright, and filled with engaging reads, ALSC's Graphic Novels Reading Lists are a great give-away for your library or school. There are a few grant opportunities available that will be closing soon, including those that support digitization and digital project planning for collections: Community Collections Grant Program - Closing September 7, 2021 The Library of Congress and the American Folklife Center are providing grants ranging from $5,000 - $60,000 to support individuals or non-profit organizations in producing cultural documentation (photographs, interviews, audio, or video recordings) about their community from the community’s perspective. Collections Assessment for Preservation Program - Closing September 15, 2021 Funded by the Insititute of Museum and Library Services, the Collections Assessment for Conservation (CAP) program is designed to help small and mid-sized museums better care for their collections. Allocation amounts range from $3,600 - $4,000 per assessor, depending on the annual budget of the institution. LM will purchase the books and have them shipped via UPS to your library. We ask that you offer the titles to the public as soon as possible. We anticipate the materials will be available this summer. Materials will be shipped to your library from Emery Pratt. Eligible libraries are legally established public libraries or a community college or tribal libraries providing regular public access to a circulating library collection. 8/23/2021 Update: ARSL Board Votes to Require Proof of Vaccination<https://www.arsl.org/2021-registration-landing-page> In the interest of ensuring the safety of our attendees and presenters, and based on the best available information from the CDC regarding large indoor gatherings, the Board of Directors of the Association for Rural and Small Libraries has voted in favor of requiring proof of vaccination to attend the 2021 ARSL Conference in person. You are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19 two weeks after your second shot if you receive(d) two doses (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), or two weeks after you receive(d) a single-dose vaccine (Johnson and Johnson (J&J)/Janssen). Attendees who fail to provide proof of vaccination will be denied admission to the conference. If you have been advised against receiving the COVID-19 vaccination by your doctor, you may provide documentation of that medical exemption on official clinic or hospital letterhead in lieu of a vaccination card. Attendees who cannot provide proof of vaccination are invited to join us for the virtual conference experience. The ARSL office will be glad to assist you in changing your registration as needed; no administrative fees will be charged to registrants as a result of these changes. We hope that this decision will help our attendees feel more secure attending our in-person event, and we look forward to reconnecting and growing with you this October.
