Planning anime/manga trivia online for teens
by Lorry Traver 22 Nov '21

22 Nov '21

Hi all, I am planning an event in January for a virtual anime/manga trivia, probably using Kahoot to conduct the trivia. My question for you is, what types of questions should I ask? I know very little about manga/anime and I know there is a lot out there so I really don't know where to start. Has anyone else done anything similar? If so, did you have questions that seemed to be pretty popular with the teens, things they knew already? I don't want to set up a trivia that is too difficult to be enjoyable. Should I stick with one specific manga/anime or touch on a few different ones? Thanks for your help! -- "You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child." - Dr. Seuss *Lorry Traver* Youth Services Coordinator Ruth Hughes Memorial District Library 211 N. by MiLibrary Quest 22 Nov '21

22 Nov '21

Hello! Your library is invited to participate in the fourth statewide MiLibraryQuest for teens. MiLibraryQuest: Winter 2022 will be held from February 1 through March 15. After world-famous thief Lupin steals a best-selling Michigan author’s laptop, it’s up to Michigan teens to find and decipher the clues the thief has left behind. If your library would like to participate, please sign up at https://bit.ly/WinterQuestSignUp by December 10. What is MiLibraryQuest? Following library closures in March 2020 and a shift to virtual programming, a group of librarians from throughout the state began meeting to collaborate on virtual teen programming. We created MiLibraryQuest, a virtual scavenger hunt, for all teens throughout the state as a summer event. Since then, we’ve hosted the program seasonally and are back for our Winter 2022 edition. What will participating libraries do? Each participating library will: - place the MiLibraryQuest image and a library-specific clue (which will be given to them) on their website - promote the event to their teens (Promotional materials will be available from the Quest team.) - award at least one prize to a teen who is from your library and completes the Quest What will teens do? The list of participating libraries and links to their websites will be provided on the Quest website (https://milibraryquest.wixsite.com/quest1) Teens will visit the libraries’ websites, locate and decode messages, and enter to win a prize. Additional information You can see more information: - on our website: https://milibraryquest.wixsite.com/quest1 - in our FAQs: https://bit.ly/WinterQuest22FAQs Questions? A Rural Library Summit from Berea College
by Lancaster, Cathy (MDE) 22 Nov '21

22 Nov '21

[cid:ii_kw3w1xd80] Partners, Save the Children and Partners for Education at Berea College are pleased to announce that the second annual Rural Library Summit will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2021. The Summit will explore how libraries can support cradle-to-career solutions by growing their impact on improving third-grade reading, combating food insecurities and enhancing mental health. We are excited to announce that Dr. Felicia Cumings Smith, president of the National Center for Families Learning, will present the opening keynote address. The 2021 Rural Library Summit celebrates the power of libraries to engage rural communities to build stronger, more equitable supports for all young people. Presentations and workshops will introduce how to create successful cradle-to-career initiatives and offer practitioners the opportunity to share what has worked in their community. Cradle-to-career initiatives create pathways to success for all young people by recognizing that access to opportunity is limited for many and supports are needed to meet the needs of all. Supports include programs addressing food insecurity, early education, literacy, mental health, college access and much more. Public libraries play a key role in creating successful initiatives by catalyzing the community to work together. The Rural Library Summit will introduce attendees to the mindsets, skills and tools needed to bring community partners together to build shared pathways to success. In addition to the opportunities for learning at the Summit, Save the Children is proud to offer $7,500 worth of support material to Rural Library Summit participants. Fourteen attendees will be randomly selected to win the prizes listed below. 1 grand prize winner - $2,500 to shop on STEMfinity<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fstemfinit…> 3 winners - $1,000 each to shop on Scholastic 10 winners - $200 Vroom Kits To win, you must be present during the Summit and be a member of the Rural Library Network. Requesting recommendations for software
by Jacalynn Harvey (Roseville Public Library) 22 Nov '21

22 Nov '21

Good morning, If you currently loan laptops to the public, can you recommend software to "clean" the computers of unwanted files after circulation? SLC uses Deepfreeze which take the laptop back to the original settings each time it is restarted, but any other suggestions? Also, any suggestions for filtering software for circulating laptops? Grants from the federal government would require filtering software if devices will access the Internet.
