Scheduling Tool Recommendations
by Maria Williams 20 Aug '26

20 Aug '26

Dear Michlib-l: I was informed yesterday that TCP will no longer develop or support When to Work, the scheduling tool we've used for five years. They plan to transition all W2W users to their new product, Humanity, at an undisclosed future date. A demo of Humanity left me unimpressed, as did the sales representative's tactics - which included pressuring me to sign a commitment to transition to Humanity by August 30th and a refusal to share its regular cost. If any of you subscribe to a professional scheduling tool that you feel works well and is worth the cost, I'd be interested in your recommendation. We have previously considered and ruled out a Google Form/Sheet or other "homemade" option; we prefer a pro option. Also, to those of you who are currently using When to Work, I was told yesterday that we will definitely have access to it through the end of our contract in May 2027, but if their goal is to move all users off of it in time the clock is ticking. If you've recently heard otherwise from TCP/W2W I'd be curious to hear your version of events. Warm regards, Maria Williams -- Currently Reading <https://www.goodreads.com/user/email_signature_destination/9555257?utm_medi…> [image: Book Cover] <https://www.goodreads.com/user/email_signature_destination/9555257?utm_medi…> [image: Goodreads Logo] <https://www.goodreads.com/?utm_medium=gr_logo&utm_source=email_signature>Get your own email signature <https://www.goodreads.com/user/email_signature_instructions?utm_medium=gyo_…>

Library Law Office Hours TODAY!
by Membiela, Clare (MDE) 20 Aug '26

20 Aug '26

Hello! Are you a Michigan library director, board member, or friends group member? Have you ever faced questions involving the law and how it relates to Michigan libraries? Questions like: If a library has an outdoor reading event with a famous author (who insisted on a "nor pictures or recording " requirement for the event) and a drone launched by a nearby resident captures video of the event and the resident then publishes the video online, is this a problem? What if the resident with the drone was a member of the library friends' group and a library volunteer? Can the author sue the library? The resident? If so, please join me TODAY, Thursday, August 20 @ 3:00pm for the Library Law Office Hours! You can register at https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYqdO6uqD8pEt31yRiFFRZkHDc96mWbdi… Once you register, a Zoom link will be e-mailed to you. Hope to "see" you there! Clare Clare D. FINAL Reminder: LM Five-Year Plan evaluation!
by Reish, Karren (MDE) 20 Aug '26

20 Aug '26

A final reminder that the survey will close on August 23rd. We appreciate it if you have a few minutes to fill it out. Thank you! Karren Reish Library Grants Coordinator Library of Michigan Good afternoon everyone! Every five years, the Library of Michigan (LM) is required to complete an evaluation of its programs funded through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). LSTA provides federal funding for many LM programs, including MeLCat and MeL Databases, Continuing Education, Community Literacy/Summer Reading Program support, PLOUD, E-Rate, digitized local history collections, some grants, and more. Our evaluator (Carson Block Consulting) has prepared a survey to help inform the evaluation. The survey has been designed to be as brief and easy as possible for you to fill out! The time required to take this survey will depend on the number of LSTA programs that you have experience with. Each section should take about 5 minutes or less to complete. Survey Link: https://www.surveyhero.com/c/qyu3a4pf If you would like to familiarize yourself with or refresh your knowledge of LM's Programs and Goals, please review pages 5-8 of LM's Five-Year LSTA plan here: https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/-/media/Project/Websites/library… Your opinion matters! Please complete the survey by Monday, August 24.
