We have a new Director here at SLC! :) Please see the announcement from our Board Chair. Thanks! -Chris Hello, The Suburban Library Cooperative Board is happy to announce Kathy McKinney as the new Director of SLC. Kathy brings 27 years of library experience to the position. She has a well rounded career of eclectic roles within libraries. In her latest position as Assistant Director of Mount Clemens public library she also served as Interim Director for 10 months. We are excited to add Kathy's enthusiasm, passion, and advocacy for libraries to the SLC beginning in March. When she is not working or advocating for libraries, you can find Kathy at concerts, sporting events, or reading the latest book release. One of Kathy's first projects will be to develop the current Strategic Plan. Feel free to reach out to her, SLC staff, or any of the SLC board members if you have any questions. My cataloger is curious as am I now...Just looking for an explanation as to why joke books or books on comedians are put in 818 Miscellaneous instead of 817 Satire & humor? Free Tables

Hello library land, Do you have a need for sturdy tables for youth crafting, tutoring programs, or even a library café space? We currently have four round tables available, each 46 inches in diameter and equipped with wheels. The tables are in good condition and have served us well. I will say- they are difficult to fold down and require some strength. It would be perfect if you needed a table out all the time or if you are a librarian who lifts. If your library could put these tables to good use, please feel free to reach out for more details. They are FREE but need to be picked up. Have a great weekend! Presenter Recommendation - 1969: Killers, Freaks, and Radicals Documentary plus Director Q & A

This past Saturday our library hosted local Director, Andrew Templeton, as he screened his documentary 1969: Killers, Freaks, and Radicals <https://www.1969doc.com/>. His documentary follows a series of murders of young women between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti during the 1960's. Over 30 people showed for the program and everyone stayed to ask Andrew additional questions. As a curator for NYU’s UltraViolet preservation repository, she works with researchers to describe, organize, and publish their data. She has an MA in interdisciplinary studies from NYU, an MSLIS from Pratt Institute, and a BA in art history from Wesleyan University. Maureen Harlow is an experienced digital preservation practitioner. For over 11 years, she was the Director of the Media Library at PBS. Prior to that, Maureen was a National Digital Stewardship Resident at the National Library of Medicine, where she created policies and procedures for thematic web archiving. She has a Masters degree in Library Science and a Masters of Public Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a BA in History from the University of Notre Dame.
