Dear colleagues, The LOCKSS Program at Stanford University is conducting research to assess digital preservation practices, capacity, and needs at memory institutions worldwide. This research expands on a survey conducted in 2019 as part of the IMLS-funded Stepping Stones project<https://mipres.org/index.php/about/statewide-regional-stepping-stones-to-th…>, which provided important data about preservation needs in the state of Michigan, and led directly to the creation of the Michigan Digital Preservation Network<https://mipres.org/>. Data from this new survey will help identify the geographic regions and communities with the greatest need for new digital preservation services and networks, highlight potential opportunities to build community-owned preservation infrastructure, and complement other assessment projects related to digital preservation, including the NDSA Staffing Survey<https://ndsa.org/groups/staffing/> and DPC-RAM<https://www.dpconline.org/digipres/implement-digipres/dpc-ram>. Patron collectible displays

Hello again library land, Are there any libraries out there that have a space for patrons of all ages to display things they collect? Is that old-fashioned? Something where patrons sign-up for a month and can display their items, i.e. teacups, lego creations, beanie babies (are they still a thing, I wonder?!), shot glasses, etc. If you do offer this, how do you manage it? MakeIT Assistant – Part Time 10 to 20 Hours per week Hours will include weekday mornings, evenings and a regular Sunday shift. Pay Rate: $15.26/hr to start Essential Duties Include: - Answer questions and job requests from makerspace patrons, referring to other Library departments as necessary. - Assist running various job requests using the Library’s Makerspace equipment. - Perform basic equipment maintenance. - Assist library patrons with use of Makerspace equipment (3D printer, laser cutter/engraver, sublimation printer, vinyl plotter, sewing and embroidery machine, etc). - Other work duties as assigned by the supervisor. Required Qualifications: - Demonstrable aptitude in using and explaining the usage of Makerspace equipment. - Strong familiarity with Windows, Apple, Android, Office, Google, and other popular computing and mobile technologies and environments. - Strong communication skills, including ability to adapt to a variety of age groups and experience levels to provide effective support and guidance. - Patient, friendly, and approachable demeanor. Works well with others. - Excellent problem-solving skills. - Ability to learn to use new technologies, sometimes with little formal instruction or training. - Candidates must be at least 17 years old (all hires under the age of 18 will be required to provide a valid Michigan work permit (CA-7) prior to their first day of work). - Willingness to seek out assistance as needed in answering questions. Friends of Michigan Libraries (FOML) new membership system

Friends of Michigan Libraries (FOML) has an updated website and a new membership system. Memberships are no longer annual but are for 12 months from your payment date. If you want to know your next payment date or have questions, just email friendsofmichiganlibraries(a)gmail.com and we will let you know. You will get a reminder 1 month before your membership expires. That will allow you to get friends board approval if you need to. If you want to renew right away, your membership will be extended from your last payment date. On your payment due date, you will get an email reminder to renew. If you do not, your account will be put on hold until payment is received. If you are not currently a member of FOML, join now and be a part of a dedicated group that supports libraries across Michigan. Group memberships are $50. Individual memberships are $25 - sustaining, $50 - honorary, $75 - silver, $100 - patron and $500 - lifetime. You can join at foml.org. Select the “Join Now” button in the upper right of the screen.
