Michigan libraries have requested approximately 5,000 copies of the 2026 book for our Smart Money Kids Read program to date -- and has capacity to give a lot more! Participating libraries agree to provide money-themed children's programming during Financial Literacy Month, April 1-30, 2025, utilizing How Do You Spend? for our SMKR program, supplemented by fun, age-appropriate programming. Librarians are so creative! Most libraries do in-person story time events, using our chosen book, along with coloring sheets, finger puppet plays, songs, rhymes, crafts, and more! Consider partnering with a local credit union on these events as well! Michigan credit unions not only provide funding for the Smart Money Kids Read program, but also enjoy participating in, and helping to provide program support, for such youth events. This year's book is Cinders McLeod's How Do YOU Spend? If your library has already submitted your request for free books for kids, please do not submit another as it makes things very confusing! What makes this event interesting is our guests. The guest speakers are the Cummings Family. Their daughter, Brynn is a student from PawPaw who made it to America's Got Talent. She is going to tell her story of her journey. It is always uplifting when you hear a story of local youth achieving success at a young age. *The Opportunity* The *Board of Trustees of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library *[SMFPL] is seeking a dynamic, collaborative leader to serve as their next *Library Director*. This mission-critical position reports to a seven-member Board of Trustees, guides a dedicated staff of 43, oversees a $3.6 million operating budget, and is responsible for the overall daily operation and oversight of the library’s departments, collections, services, programs, and facilities. The Library Director is tasked with nurturing positive and meaningful professional relationships with the SMFPL’s Board, staff, and patrons. Also, as the chief representative and face of the library system, the Library Director represents the library in the industry and community by making presentations, serving on boards and committees, and seeking opportunities to enhance the Library’s visibility as a vital community partner and resource. In addition to organizing, directing, and evaluating all library functions, operations, and activities, the Library Director will prioritize implementation of the new strategic plan, budget planning, resource management/fundraising, civic engagement, staff development and succession planning, and championing diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion. *About the Library and Community* Stow Library was founded in May 1924 as a school district library with a Board of Trustees appointed by the Board of Education. Located in the Township Hall close to the town center, it served both Stow and Munroe Falls, as it does today. Jessie Williamson, daughter of Adella Durbin, was the first librarian of Stow Public Library. Mrs. Williamson was sent for library training at Western Reserve University for one month in the summer of 1924, at the expense of the Trustees. The library officially opened to the public in January 1925. In 2024, the Library celebrated its 100th anniversary, and over the past several years, has undergone many significant improvements and enhancements including indoor renovations, development of new outdoor spaces, increased access to print and digital materials via CLEVNET, and new mobile services programming, including bookmobile service. The mission of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library is to provide the community with resources and opportunities for life-long learning that support intellectual freedom, curiosity, and creativity. It also aims to promote the well-being of the community through programs and cooperative efforts with other community agencies, public and private. Wonder/Vox book replacements

Hello libraryland, A while back there was a discussion on Wonder and Vox books here on michlib, and I exchanged emails with a library that removes the soundbox from worn Wonderbooks and glues them onto replacement books. I'm attempting it myself for the first time, and was wondering if anyone has done this and has any advice for me? Namely, how do you get the foam adhesive off the soundbox once you've pried it from the book, and what kind of adhesive do you use to glue it to the new book? Hi everyone, I wanted to pass along Bruce Kopytek's information, bkopytek(a)editionsbk.com. His website can be found here, https://editionsbk.com/about/. He's a local author and wonderful presenter. My family and I went and saw him speak about his new book, The D&C Lake Lines and the Fabulous Luxury Liners of the Great Lakes at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. It was a full house and a very interesting topic. Perfect for those patrons who love Michigan History. Bruce is an engaging presenter and I could tell he was passionate about his subject. I talked to him afterwards to see if he would be willing to present to libraries and he said he would be and has presented at a few in the past. He said he would love to present at libraries on the west side of the state as well. A few libraries have asked me about solar initiatives, and I noticed that EBSCO currently has its 2026 Solar Grant open.
