Hello - the Library of Michigan has free materials we are offering to the library community. To take advantage of this opportunity, see the information below and the attached spreadsheet. Feel free to forward this message to other library groups or listservs within Michigan. Content and condition The titles listed are extra copies of fiction and non-fiction (hard and soft cover) books including donated materials we cannot use, items weeded from our collections, and books that have been submitted to be considered for our Michigan Notable Books program. Most of the non-MNB items are old library books and come with library markings/stickers but are otherwise in the condition noted on the spreadsheet. How to request Please submit requests by email to baconb1(a)michigan.gov<mailto:baconb1@michigan.gov> . If you are local or passing through, you are welcome to schedule a time to select and claim materials on-site from 9am-5pm, Mon.-Fri. Email baconb1(a)michigan.gov<mailto:baconb1@michigan.gov> if you want to schedule a visit. Email requests are handled on a first-come basis by date and time. Some, or all requested materials may no longer be available at the point we receive your email. It may take a couple weeks to process the requests, depending on staff time and availability of RIDES totes. I will send you an email when I am able to ship the materials to you. Shipping We prefer to ship items via RIDES. If you are not in the RIDES system, we can ship via UPS and we will cover the cost of shipment. Email requests must include the title as noted on the spreadsheet, how many copies you want (if applicable), RIDES code or a delivery address (street address only, no P.O. box), contact name, phone number and email address. Chief of Staff - Metropolitan Library System (OK) The Metropolitan Library System<https://www.metrolibrary.org/> (OK) is looking for a communicative and experienced executive to serve as Chief of Staff. This individual will provide strategic and operational leadership across the library system that serves the entirety of Oklahoma County, including over 800,000 people across suburban, urban, and rural areas. The mission of the Metropolitan Library System is to connect diverse communities with resources and experiences that educate and enrich lives. With 20 physical locations, the library benefits from a supportive community, a thriving Friends of the Library organization, and a Library Endowment Trust. The library is governed by the Metropolitan Library Commission of Oklahoma County, which consists of 27 members representing each municipality that has a library or library extension within its boundaries. The commission has delegated direction and administrative oversight of the library to the Chief Executive Officer. The Chief of Staff will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will work diligently to improve and strengthen current services and operationalize strategic goals. This role will ensure internal alignment, supervise designated chiefs, and promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and data-informed decision-making. Keen organizational awareness, a nuanced approach to leadership, an ability to assess situations effectively, advocate for action, and prioritize messaging, are key traits for this role. The ideal candidate will have executive-level experience leading large teams across multiple layers of management, with a demonstrated ability to drive organizational effectiveness and accountability. This strategic, big-picture thinker will possess change management skills and the capability to contribute innovative ideas and guide a dynamic, evolving public service organization. Under the management of the Engagement & Design Department Head, the Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and creating internal and external communication content for use on the web, media releases, marketing collateral, newsletters, presentations, advertising and marketing campaigns. The Communications Specialist works closely with freelancers as needed and consults with community partners. The nature of the work requires daytime, evening and weekend hours. Employees may be classified as salaried and exempt from overtime under FLSA guidelines if they meet the applicable salary requirements. Regular full-time and part-time employees are non-exempt from overtime under FLSA guidelines. Building Community-Based Summers If you are interested in participating in a virtual BCBS cohort, you have two options to apply for: * A new Ohio/Michigan/Indiana Tri-state Cohort! This cohort will offer up to 11 sessions (some deep dives, some optional check-ins), with the Youth Services Consultants from Michigan and Ohio, the Adult Services Consultant from Ohio, and each other to consider what impact summer programs are having on those that need them the most.
